The film's title refers to the surfing term "point break", where a wave breaks as it hits a point of land jutting out from the coastline.

Fame was a film directed by Alan Parker, a serious auteur (some would say overly serious, especially in light of the work that came later) who designed the film for posterity, and the same attitude carried over the music. Yes, the production techniques often do sound dated – the over-reliance on state-of-the-art synthesizer ironically now sounds helplessly tied to the year of its creation – but the music by Michael Gore is dynamic, varied, and alive, sung with real passion and vigor, and it still retains its essential spark 23 years after it was a pop culture phenomenon. Sure, it's glitzy and glossy, sounding like show tunes, but that's the tradition of this music, and it was done better than most Broadway tunes and movie soundtracks of the '80s. Years later, this still has the spark and vitality of kids trying to make their big break, no matter the kind of music they're singing, and that's one of the main reasons (along with Gore's fine compositions) Fame retains its power and entertainment value years later.

Dancer, actor, and singer Fred Astaire worked steadily in various entertainment media during nine decades of the 20th century. The most celebrated dancer in the history of film, with appearances in 31 movie musicals between 1933 and 1968 (and a special Academy Award in recognition of his accomplishments in them), Astaire also danced on-stage and on television (garnering two Emmy Awards in the process), and he even treated listening audiences to his accomplished tap dancing on records and on his own radio series. He appeared in another eight non-musical feature films and on numerous television programs, resulting in an Academy Award nomination and a third Emmy Award as an actor. His light tenor voice and smooth, conversational phrasing made him an ideal interpreter for the major songwriters of his era, and he introduced dozens of pop standards, many of them written expressly for him, by such composers as Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Burton Lane, Frank Loesser, Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Arthur Schwartz, Harry Warren, and Vincent Youmans.

Porn music is iconic in and of itself. Everybody knows what it sounds like, even if they've never watched an adult film. They know the incessant wah-wah guitars, the limp funk vamps, the shimmering electric pianos, the low-rent production that practically conjures shag carpeting, leisure suits, bell bottoms, and afros – it all adds up to the sound of porn. And, 30 years after the golden age of adult cinema has passed, everybody still thinks this is what porno sounds like, which is why collections like the 35-track (!) Inside Deep Note: Music of 1970's Adult Cinema exist. This collection, copyrighted in Denmark, certainly uses Paul Thomas Anderson's 1998 epic Boogie Nights as its ground zero, claiming that it was produced and compiled by Brock Landers and the Colonel and that the "images" – lots and lots of photographs of women from the '70s, some clearly stills from films, some clearly not; some quite sexy, some quite not; some naked, some just in various states of undress – are from the PT Archives, but it's nearly a sure bet that PTA was not involved in this production.

Among the many elements that create a full video game experience, music plays an important role. It is said to contribute more than half of the player’s feeling of immersion, and that’s why the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands (GRW) team sought the best artists to compose the game’s soundtrack. This lead GRW’s Music Supervisor, Manu Bachet, and Audio Director, Ghislain Soufflet, to reach out to Alain Johannes, an amazing artist and star of the Californian rock stage, known for his work with bands like Queen of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan, and PJ Harvey. Alain Johannes invited three of his friends to take part in the recording sessions: bassist Nick Oliveri (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, and Mondo Generator, to name a few) and drummers Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan) and Norm Block (Sweethead, Plexi).
