Margret Wander, better known by her stage name Dessa, is a rapper, singer, spoken word artist, and writer from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a member of the indie hip hop collective Doomtree. Robert Christgau say: 'Dessa is a fluent lyricist. . . she recalls an old-fashioned high-quality singer-songwriter like Joni Mitchell or Rosanne Cash'.

Badly Broken Code is the long-awaited full-length album from Dessa. The disc features production from Paper Tiger, Lazerbeak, Cecil Otter, MK Larada, and Big Jess. The fifteen songs emphasize Dessa’s wingspan as a singer, rapper, and lyricist—the tracks range from melancholy a cappella arrangements to vintage torch songs to infectious rap cuts.
