Sometimes it takes a long time to arrive at where you started. “I should have done this 30 years ago,” Brian Cadd smiles when he reveals details of his brand-new album, Dream Train. Brian Cadd was a country-rock pioneer in Australia. A member of Axiom, Australia’s first country-rock supergroup, he then had the solo smash ‘Let Go’, a country classic that became his most recorded song – covered by more than 60 artists around the world. Now, Brian Cadd has finally made the country album he was always destined to make. “This album has been an exceptional journey,” Brian says. “It has taken me so long to actually make a country album, I was unsure how it would feel for me. I have been writing country and country-rock songs for many years, yet I remained locked into my ‘Brian Cadd – rock artist’ persona on stage and particularly in the studio. “But with Dream Train I found a new freedom which allowed me to think ‘outside the musical artist box’ that I’d existed within for so long.”

The late 60s and early 70s saw a growing disillusionment with middle-class material progress and the general emptiness of life. The political landscape was in Australia was at boiling point with anti-Vietnam war demonstrations, and the beginnings of the women’s movement. “Seasons Of Change Happening Hits Of The Hippy Era”, compiled by Brent James reflects the ‘happening’ music of this period, with charting hits and some much-loved album tracks including Australian artists Colleen Hewett, Doug Ashdown and Digby Richards. Frankie Miller is one of the great unsung rockers of the '70s, a blue-eyed soul singer on par with Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker who could also rock as hard as Bob Seger. All three of these artists recognized a kindred spirit in Miller, with all three covering his songs in the '70s and '80s. Like all hard-working rockers, Miller kept working right into the '90s, when he tragically suffered a brain hemorrhage while woodshedding a new band with Joe Walsh. After five months, he emerged from a coma but was paralyzed and lost his speech. His friends did their best to keep his legacy alive, a mission that peaks with 2016's Frankie Miller's Double Take. Instigated by the curiosity of Rod Stewart, producer David Mackay asked Miller's wife if there were any unreleased songs, and she sent him a bunch of tapes, which he then polished and refurbished into Double Take.

Matt Scullion is one of the most respected singer/songwriters to come out of Australia in recent years with a swag of hit songs to his credit. Matt’s sound is definitely his own, but his influences vary from The Eagles to Ryan Adams to Bruce Springsteen to Steve Earle with a little bit of James Taylor thrown in for good measure – sounding like none of them, but channeling all of them. He has written with the best and had his songs recorded by the likes of Cold Chisel, Lee Kernaghan, Travis Collins, Sara Storer, Adam Harvey, The Viper Creek Band, Tania Kernaghan, Drew McAlister, Amber Lawrence, Troy Kemp, The Wolfe Brothers and Jayne Denham to name but a few, with 16 of those songs going to the number 1 position on the country music charts.
