Best of Both Worlds is a two-disc compilation album by British neo-progressive rock band Marillion released in 1997 by EMI Records, who the band had been signed to from their debut in 1982 until being dropped in 1995. The title refers to Marillion's two distinct "eras" with lead singers Fish (1980—1988) and Steve Hogarth (since 1989). By the time this compilation was released, both line-ups had recorded four studio albums each. The second best-of since the 14-track one-disc compilation A Singles Collection (known as Six of One, Half a Dozen of the Other in the US) from 1992, this one additionally contains material from Brave (1994) and Afraid of Sunlight (1996).

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a brand new 2CD deluxe anthology of the complete recordings by the legendary C.C.S. Formed in 1970, C.C.S. (Collective Consciousness Society) was the brainchild of musician and arranger John Cameron, guitarist Alexis Korner (the father of British Blues) and producer MIckie Most. The group was initially conceived as a recording band only, but following the success of their legendary cover version of Led Zeppelin’s "Whole Lotta Love” (used as the theme for "Top of the Pops” for many years) and "Tap Turns on the Water”, the band also undertook live work. C.C.S. featured the cream of jazz and blues talent such as flautist Harold McNair, bass players Herbie Flowers and Spike Heatley, sax players Tony Coe and Ron Ross, trumpet players Henry Lowther, Kenny Wheeler and Harold Beckett and drummers Barry Morgan and Tony Carr. Between 1970 and 1973 C.C.S. released three albums and seven singles for RAK Records, with one album and four singles all reaching the UK Top Forty.

Pop

Outgrowing the wild-hearted club anthems that defined her ascent, Kesha sounds reborn on her third album, commanding a set of sonically broad, heartfelt pop. Here, she punctuates the assertive funk of “Woman” with The Dap-Kings’ horn section and sings country-touched harmonies with Dolly Parton. But Rainbow is held together by Kesha’s elastic, giggle-to-roar vocal, which sounds best on blasting, jittery confections like “Boogie Feet” and “Learn to Let Go."

Less Is More marks a kind of evolutionary milestone for Marillion. They may have emerged in the early ‘80s as the front-runners of the British neo-progressive movement (alongside the likes of Pendragon, IQ, et al.), but these days it's hard to imagine that the prefix "neo" was ever attached to this longstanding band. Four out of five current members have been on board since the second Marillion album, 1984's Fugazi, and singer Steve Hogarth became a 20-year man the year of Less Is More's release. They've come so far from their over the top, Genesis/Van der Graaf Generator-indebted beginnings that it's difficult to believe they're even the same group. Of course, in many ways, they aren't; that's the whole point of Less Is More, which finds Marillion revisiting songs from all across the last 20 years of their discography in new acoustic-based arrangements…

A drab sleeve does little justice to an imaginative (not to mention evocative) album title, but Church of Hawkwind's problems were only just beginning. Stumbling uncertainly into a new day, following their brief encounter with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Hawkwind were very much a ship in search of direction, but it would take the return of founder Nik Turner the following year to wrestle the group back on course. Church of Hawkwind finds them simply drifting, without even the isolated highlights of the previous year's Sonic Attack to look forward to.
