Another terrific thematic collection from those imaginative folks at Omni. Although there have been quite a few albums devoted to country prison songs this is a particularly well chosen collection featuring 28 tracks recorded between 1956 and 1972. It opens strongly with the superb Harlan Howard song The Wall given a powerful performance by Freddie Hart and keeps up the quality with Jaycee Hill's Crash-Out, Marty Robbins is here with one of his most intense performances The Chair - probably inspired by controversial execution of Caryl Chessman whose story is also dealt with in songs by Country Johnny Mathis, Ronnie Hawkins, Hoyle Miller and Jimmy Minor.

It always seemed that women have led the way when it came to Swing. For every Crosby and Sinatra, there was not only an Ella or a Billie, but also a Sarah and a Peggy. For each Mel Tormé or Tony Bennett, there was a Lena , an Aretha, a Nina or a Dinah. Hansen created the Demento persona in 1970 while working at Los Angeles station KPPC-FM. He played "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvus on the radio, and DJ "The Obscene" Steven Clean said that Hansen had to be "demented" to play it, and the name stuck. His weekly show went into syndication in 1974] and was syndicated by the Westwood One Radio Network from 1978 to 1992. Broadcast syndication of the show ended on June 6, 2010, but the show continues to be produced weekly in an online version.
