Heart of Stone is the nineteenth studio album by American singer-actress Cher, released on June 19, 1989 by Geffen Records. It is one of Cher's best-selling albums with more than 4 million copies sold worldwide as of January 1991. Heart of Stone reached number ten in the United States, number seven in the United Kingdom, and by topping the charts in Australia, Heart of Stone became Geffen's first international number one album. It was her first solo album in the United States to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album produced three top 10 hits as well as a top 20 hit with the title track.

In 1965, flush from the success of Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe," Cher earned her first major solo contract with Liberty/Imperial (she had previously recorded only a few singles under aliases). With Sonny Bono enlisted as producer, Cher lit up the pop charts with the smash "All I Really Want to Do," and its follow-up, "I Go to Sleep." Although the next three years saw only inconsistent chart entries, her recordings were interesting and frequently as good as the leading lights of folk-pop, the Mamas & the Papas. And she covered most of the best folk songwriters of the time Dylan, Tim Hardin, John Sebastian, Paul Simon, and Jackie DeShannon. Add points for a few interesting crossovers of pop songs like "Sunny" or "Alfie" (the latter a Top 40 hit), but subtract some for a few misguided covers ("It's Not Unusual" prime among them), and The Best of the Imperial Recordings 1965-1968 is revealed as a near-necessity for '60s folk-rock fans. It includes all of her album debut, All I Really Want to Do, as well as the vast majority of her four subsequent LPs for the label (The Sonny Side of Cher, Cher, With Love, Cher, Backstage).

Cher's mid-'90s album It's a Man's World can safely be labeled as one of the singer's finest, as well as one of her most overlooked and underappreciated albums. Full of steamy, torchy ballads, Western-themed epics, and R&B influences, the album finds the singer sounding vocally relaxed and self-assured. Around this time, Madonna made an album of heavily R&B-influenced material (Bedtime Stories) to capitalize on the mid-'90s R&B/pop phenomenon (when Boyz II Men and all their clones ruled the music charts); this album could be classified as Cher's similar effort. "One by One," the album's opener (and first single), is an irresistible, mid-tempo soul number that never made the American Top 40, yet became a club hit in its remixed form. The original album version, however, is decidedly superior.

3614 Jackson Highway was released in the summer of 1969, was the first and last for Kapp, and was produced by Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin.
This disc is certainly his most ambitious project (at least for the 60's) and was designed to bring Cher summit, after a period of crisis because 1968-1970 wasn't really a good period for Sonny & Cher and for Cher as a solo artist. The worldwide pop-culture was moving on, but Sonny & Cher kind of stayed in their original image and style. The pop-music was transformating into anti-war songs, against the war in Vietnam. Cher's and Sonny & Cher's music couldn't really fit in that. So their records wouldn't really sell anymore. For months they had a nightclub act, but the audience didn't pay attention.

It was the last solo Cher album to be produced by Sonny Bono, then her husband and performing partner. While the album is a favorite among Cher fans critical reviews were mixed, and Bittersweet White Light was Cher's first commercial failure of the 1970s. Bittersweet White Light received mixed reviews from music critics. Rolling Stone said the album "consists entirely of ballad-rocked standards by Kern, Gershwin, etc., and should please the artist's TV fans.
