Child Slave

Jabali Smith was a 6-yr-old in Berkeley, California when he was trafficked along with his sister over the border into Mexico and held captive by a messianic doomsday sex cult. A story of unimaginable suffering followed by the discovery of success, love, compassion and forgiveness.

Mara, a woman of easy virtue, saves a Polish girl in a train accident where her parents die. She would like to adopt her, and would succeed, if a former pimp wouldn't come back into her life.
The story is told with a long flashback.
Unlike the other heroines of Matarazzo's melodramas, here the protagonist is always a lonely woman, predestined to defeat: to no avail are her attempts to redeem herself and change her life. Fate prevails.
