While the global pandemic has been a challenging time in-particular for artists around the world, it has afforded new opportunities for creativity. If art imitates life, then our Feature Album this week on ABC Jazz certainly lives up to that age-old philosophy. Stuck at home during lockdowns in the UK, saxophonist Trish Clowes turned her home into both a studio and a performance space.

One of the endearing qualities about this record is that it’s maintained its mysteries. Decades later, maybe it’s time to unlock a little of the origin story.

"All For One" perfects the intoxicating chemistry of Jamison Ross' debut, which intermingled blues, jazz, R&B and soul effortlessly. The album boasts a cast of musicians of whom Ross has developed a strong rapport from touring - pianist Chris Pattishall, guitarist Rick Lollar, bassist Barry Stephenson, and Cory Irvin on Hammond organ and Fender Rhodes. Ross is particularly enthusiastic with the addition of Irvin on the organ because he likens that instrument to an orchestra that would accompany jazz singers like Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday.

Theater Of The Mind is the 2008 album by rapper/actor Christopher Bridges, better known under the mononym Ludacris. The album features many special guests. This was released by Disturbing The Peace/Def Jam.

It is not hard to find a great blues or rock guitarist, and tracking down a good singer and front man is a little harder, but they are out there. Songwriting clinics crank out more than enough new writers every week, and some of them can actually pen really nice tunes. But, finding a talented guitarist that is also an effective leader, singer, and songwriter is not an easy task, which makes Chris Bergson a true find!

"Last Time I Saw Him" is a 1973 album released by American singer Diana Ross on the Motown Records. It reached #52 in the USA (#12 R&B) and sold over 200,000 copies. It also helped Ross win the 1974 American Music Award for Favorite R&B Female. The arrangements were by Gene Page, Michael Omartian, Tom Baird, David Blumberg, Bob Gaudio, James Carmichael and Paul Riser. Harry Langdon was credited with the cover photography. The album yielded the title track single "Last Time I Saw Him", a multi-format hit that reached #1 (for three weeks) on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary, #14 on the Hot 100, and #15 on the Hot Soul singles. It peaked at #9 Pop on the Top 100 lists for both Cashbox and Record World, as well as #10 in Radio & Records. It also reached #35 in the United Kingdom.

Ross Cooper is the rare country musician who has actually lived the life of a cowboy. The former professional bareback rider was still bustin' broncs when his music career began. Though a knee injury sidelined his rodeo career, Cooper drives a band like he's still wearing spurs and holding on for eight.
