The oldest active orchestra of the classical world, the Staatskapelle Dresden always surrounded itself with conductors and soloists of talent throughout its long history. This beautiful collection of classical era recordings features Sabine Meyer, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christian Zacharias, Neville Marriner, Peter Schreier and Edda Moser. It includes concertos, sacred music, arias and various orchestral pieces such as serenades conducted by Harnoncourt which are available for the first time digitally.

Elliot Ho Yat Leung (IPA: eliːət lœŋ) is a composer who seeks to blend the five human senses through poignant musical storytelling. He is the youngest recipient of the prestigious Huabiao Award for music. The South China Morning Post observed Leung as a composer who writes “evocatively with flair and romance.”

Composer and Concert Pianist. She was born in Valencia (Comunidad Valenciana, Spain) and died in Beverly Hills (California). She developed a triumphal career as pianist around the world. She was the sister of also famous valencian pianist José Iturbi. She appeared as herself, along with his brother in films such as Two Girls and a Sailor (1944), Holiday in Mexico (1946), Three Daring Daughters (1948) and That Midnight Kiss (1949). A street bears her name in Valencia.

Sergey Rachmaninov was better known in his day for his pianistic virtuosity than for his compositions, but his creative output has long been acknowledged as the enthralling legacy of a major creative artist. A thrilling masterpiece based on Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem, The Bells is a choral symphony in all but name, its theme giving Rachmaninov the opportunity to explore his fascination with bell sounds. Spring is a dramatic portrayal of rebirth in a land gripped by ice, while the Three Russian Songs are folk-song settings that became a hit at the premiere under the baton of Leopold Stokowski. The Elite Recordings for VOX by legendary producers Marc Aubort and Joanna Nickrenz are considered by audiophiles to be amongst the finest sounding examples of orchestral recordings.

This live recording was made at the famous St Donat’s Castle in Wales during a recital by Michael Kevin Jones, cellist and pianist Sally Tarlton. From this concert we chose for this HD Remastered production, Giovanni Battista Sammartini’s famous cello Sonata in G major.
