75th anniversary album out now! Sigmund Groven has been a musician and composer for several decades. This is now celebrated with the release of Sigmund Groven In Concert, a special compilation mostly featuring previously unreleased live recordings. From Sigmund’s own compositions to famous classical music, and from Norwegian stages to international concert halls, In Concert offers no less than 26 tracks. This is Sigmund’s first live album, an album that also contains several studio recordings that have not been released digitally before.
"The idea of recording this album was born during the tour of Nightbook, which in its breadth has seen eighty dates between Europe and America, all of which are followed by the audience - told the Einaudi Feltrinelli di Milano - Every concert was different from ' other, because playing live, in situations so exciting, there are growing and new arrangements of songs interesting variations. Throughout the tour I have done nothing but dream about the stage at the Royal Albert Hall, it is a legendary place for every musician. And so finally I decided to record their live concert that, in a double album. "
Long before he had heard the whole of Mozart’s C Major Piano Concerto, Finnish jazz pianist Iiro Rantala had known the andante. “The second movement,” he explains, “is on the soundtrack to the James Bond Film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. It’s the scene where they show you the underwater city – and it’s my absolute favourite Bond film.”
Valentina Lisitsa, the “YouTube Pianist”, made her sensational solo debut at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 19 June. Streamed live on YouTube the concert received an incredible 74,329 views, with some 6,000 comments being posted on Valentina’s YouTube Channel to date.
Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Elena Kats-Chernin studied music in Moscow, Sydney and Hanover. She has created works across nearly every genre, from rags to operas and works for robotic instruments to a full scale choral symphony. Her music featured at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
