As Billboard magazine's dance music columnist, Brian Chin had a ringside seat for the dance scene of the '80s, an era when the word "disco" fell into disrepute, but producers and artists just kept on making music with a steady, loping beat that clubgoers could dance to. Chin compiled and annotated this collection, part of Hip-O Records' discount-priced Gold series of two-disc compilations. In his liner notes, Chin provides a history of the decade in dance that properly mentions plenty of artists – among them stars like Michael Jackson and George Michael, and dance favorites like Tom Tom Club and the Weather Girls – not included on the album.

VA - Club Classics: The Greatest Old Skool Anthems of All Time (2004) is a compilation album that brings together a collection of iconic tracks from the golden era of club music and dance anthems. Released in 2004, this compilation is part of the broader nostalgia wave for the 90s and early 2000s clubbing culture, offering a snapshot of the most memorable songs from the old skool rave, acid house, and early house music scenes. These tracks were the backbone of dance floors during the late 80s and early 90s, and many of them are still celebrated today for their impact on the evolution of electronic dance music.

An incredible collection – and one that fills in a crucially under-documented side of the New York dancefloor generation – the wealth of special mixes and edits that were made for that city's important DJs for their own use in clubs! The package sorts through a mountain of never-issued acetates, and goes way past conventional disco or rare club collections – to showcase the special mixing talents these DJs brought to their re-presentation of the material – which was usually done on tape, then pressed onto acetate discs for their own private use! Those rare treasures are brought forth here – in a beautiful package that's also overflowing with fantastic notes that finally give this lost history its due – all handled by Al Kent – who's a hell of a mixer himself, as well as an underground club historian.

Featuring original artists and well known chart acts we are pleased to release this album as we remember the Club culture of the 1980's, kicking off with a Pet Shop Boys classic It's A Sin by 80s icon Miquel Brown (Sinitta's mother and well known worldwide for her hit "So Many Men, So Little Time").
