A San Francisco psychedelic folk-rock band built around the violinist David LaFlamme and the soaring vocals of singer Pattie Santos, It's a Beautiful Day hit their creative and commercial peak with 1969's "White Bird," an FM radio staple, and then pretty much played out its string, succumbing to the myriad pressures of the music industry, but for a year or two there, It's a Beautiful Day were one of the best and most interesting of San Francisco's bands. Although this set, originally released in 2003, is billed as It's a Beautiful Day, and has a re-done version of "White Bird," it's essentially a LaFlamme solo album.
Beautiful Dreamers is Bill Frisell's debut for Savoy Jazz. He left longstanding label Nonesuch in 2009, claiming he needed to release more than one record per year in order to to document his various bands, film score commitments, and commissions. This set features the guitarist in the company of violist Eyvind Kang and drummer Rudy Royston on a program of ten originals and six covers. While this trio is well known for using various effects in concert to expand its sonic palette, and jamming on various tunes for long periods of time, here the musicians are virtually a mirror image of that incarnation, playing with restraint, brevity, and melodic sensitivity.
After 10 years, atmospheric triprock band The Gathering has released a new album. ‘Beautiful Distortion’ is a typical eclectic The Gathering album, although it may be their ‘most dynamic and melodic’ album to date. The Gathering’s signature electronic rock sound is topped with warm Nordic vocals and beautiful vocal lines by Silje Wergeland. Producer Attie Bauw, who also produced The Gathering’s Home and How to Measure a Planet?, collaborated with them on their 11th full length studio album.
A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, produced by Don Reedman and Nick Patrick, features elegant and spirited arrangements of Roy's best original vocal performances with the emotion and world-class musicianship of London s most beloved orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. A Love So Beautiful includes the timeless Roy tracks "Oh, Pretty Woman", "You Got It", "Crying" and more while breathing new life into fan favorites such as "Drove All Night" and the title track "A Love So Beautiful". Additionally, the album will feature instrumental backing from "Roy's boys": his three sons Wesley, Roy Jr. and Alex; plus Roy's grandson Roy Orbison III.
"Beautiful Night" is a song by Paul McCartney and is the 13th track on his 1997 album Flaming Pie. In December 1997, it was released as the third and final single from that album, peaking at number 25 in the UK Singles Chart. The song was originally recorded in August 1986 in New York City. That version can be heard on the CD single as part of the "Oobu Joobu" section. The song features the first of two collaborations McCartney performed with Ringo Starr on Flaming Pie (the second being "Really Love You") as well as an orchestration by George Martin, recorded at Abbey Road Studios.
