Coeur de Pirate is a Québécoise singer/songwriter and pianist who made her acclaimed eponymous album debut in 2008 and eventually rose to Top Five success in France the following year with her smash hit single "Comme des Enfants." Born Beatrice Martin on September 22, 1989, in Quebec, Canada, she began playing piano at age three and was educated in Montreal. She began her recording career in 2007, posting demo versions of her songs on MySpace. Around this same time, she began playing keyboards in the acclaimed Montreal-based indie pop band Bonjour Brumaire.
Cœur de Pirate is the solo project of award-winning singer-songwriter and pianist Béatrice Martin. Since the age of 3, Martin has been playing the piano and expressing herself through songs and music. After spending several years singing and playing keyboards in Montreal indie bands, Martin decided to go solo and released her eponymously titled debut album in September 2008, to immediate national and international acclaim. Her popularity on YouTube and MySpace helped her garner millions of new fans. Cœur de Pirate has now sold more than one million albums worldwide and counting.
The fourth album of Coeur de Pirate, or Béatrice Martin, was born out of a difficult time in her life. After finishing her third album, Roses, and playing around 250 shows, she was exhausted, struggling with OCD and pushed to her breaking point.
