3 Colours Red has the sound of classic punk down cold. They have the furious attack of the Clash and the shout-along stomp of Sham 69, adding a touch of the Stranglers' old-school rock & roll sensibilities. All of which makes their debut, Pure, a bit of an oddity in 1997, especially since 3 Colours Red doesn't try to expand on their influences at all. In fact, it's a distinct possibility that the band just happened upon this sound as they were bashing away in their garage. It wouldn't be so bad if the band kept the energy level high, but Pure often sags into pedestrian garage-punk territory. There are a few dynamic songs scattered throughout the record, suggesting that they could develop into a cracking little band, but on the whole, Pure is a muddled debut.(allmusic.com)
'Fire Like This' is the second album from Brighton-based two-piece Blood Red Shoes. Heavily influenced by American underground and punk music, Blood Red Shoes often distance themselves from the current British music scene and consider themselves part of the tradition of US punk bands. 'Fire Like This' was recorded with producer Mike Crossey, who has previously worked with the Arctic Monkeys and The Enemy. The album is preceded by the single 'Colours Fade'.
Slovenian guitar ace Samo Salamon fronts a European ensemble akin to one of those legendary all-star jazz summits, but of course these colorific works veer off into an experimental wonderland of improvisation with split-second paradigm shifts amid the ensemble's synergistic discourses. Nonetheless, the respective musicians are at the top of their game here, as Salamon arranged for drummers Roberto Dani and Christian Lillinger to generate the seismic currents by staying in synch but not necessarily executing the same patterns.
