Mental Vortex is the fourth album by the Swiss thrash metal band Coroner, released on August 12, 1991. After being out of print for many years, Noise/BMG reissued the album in 2018, remastered with the same track list in a digipack cd case, with additional photographs of the band and memorabilia. This is not as great as No More Color, but the quality isn't drastically lower. Mental Vortex is the musical analogue to the immaculate machines which the Swiss watches have had the reputation to be all these years.

Coroner's unorthodox approach to thrash metal had been turning heads and opening minds with their every release, and with album number four, 1991's Mental Vortex, the band arguably reached their creative peak. Widely regarded as their greatest achievement, Mental Vortex was the culmination of three increasingly unique and experimental albums which saw the Swiss trio (much like their early mentors, Celtic Frost) quickly moving away from the everyday trappings of thrash metal into unpredictable avant-thrash territory…

R.I.P. is the debut album released by the Swiss thrash metal band Coroner on 1 June 1987. This album marks the first chapter of the band's progression (thus it is less focused) and is characterized by raw speed and power (save for the instrumentals), very typical of thrash metal at this time. This album is just goddamn primal and ferocious.

Punishment for Decadence is the second album by the Swiss thrash metal group Coroner, released on 1 August 1988. It bears many similarities to the previous album, except the band's performance is more precise and features increased use of slightly more melodic guitar work, as well as a slightly different lyrical style. After the classic R.I.P, it would be hard for Coroner, a band so technically and skillfully superior to most other thrash bands to top their first album.

No More Color is Coroner's third album. It is the release where they started to truly 'progress', as the songs are still similar to their older, speedy, European thrash metal but start to feature elements of the avant-garde progressive thrash of their later albums. This album features very proficient instrumentation and incorporation of elements from genres such as jazz fusion, progressive rock and classical music, which would later be an influence on the evolution and maturity of the experimental side of heavy metal, including acts such as Death.

Grin is the fifth studio album by the Swiss thrash metal band Coroner, released in 1993. It was the band's final album before their fourteen-year break up from 1996 to 2010 (although their compilation album, 1995's Coroner featured several new tracks). The album is considered a major departure from Coroner's early work, consisting of elements of groove metal and industrial metal, with much less emphasis on speed and technicality. Grin is the last Coroner album to feature drummer Marky Edelmann, who left the band in 2014. After being out of print for many years, Noise/BMG reissued the album in 2018, remastered with the same track list in a digipack cd case, with additional photographs of the band and memorabilia.

From their modest beginnings as roadies for avant-garde Swiss metal legends Celtic Frost, the members of Coroner carved out one of the most unique careers in the European thrash metal scene. They were originally pegged as a conventional thrash band, but their jaw-dropping musicianship and increasingly complex, almost prog rock compositions soon won over most critics, some of whom labeled them the Rush of thrash metal…

Although most fans and critics will commonly point to 1991's Mental Vortex as Coroner's best all-around effort, the adventurous Swiss trio had yet to deliver one last semi-masterpiece before going their separate ways. Ultimately Coroner's last will and testament, 1993's multi-faceted Grin drew strong criticism from some of the band's more extreme fan contingent upon release – these being of the opinion that its experimental songwriting was simply too "out there," even for Coroner…
