Cuckoo Calling

Recovered from the depths of the Rory Gallagher archive comes ‘Cleveland Calling’ a previously unreleased radio session recorded at WNCR in Cleveland on August 7th,1972. This intimate 8-song acoustic session and interview with DJ Carolyn Thomas was found on a small 7” reel and will be released for the first time for Record Store Day 2020.

When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case. Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his life is in disarray. JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, secretly penned a crime novel which became a rave-review bestseller without readers realising she had written it. A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel's suicide. After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.

A long long time ago, when I was a kid, this little birdie was initially bought to me by my father during our visit of Romania sometimes in 1980s. Since those times this cuckoo sits here and there, moving with me from a flat to a flat, from my childhood to present days. I bet it has never dreamed about being finally sampled :-). But it happened and did a nice job, singing those two tones patiently for me (it has a hole in the front that can be covered by a finger to produce lower tone). Soon after I started to play with the samples in Kontakt I decided to release two versions of this instrument - one freebie containing some basic patches and also some experimental one and the full version, which brings cca 3 times more sample content, more controls in GUI, more patches, dynamic ones, looped ones - all together with nice experimental possibilities. You can come up with kind of jungle scenery with various exotic birds tweeting, get to the sci-fi territory with weird pads and effests, or to get to the rock pub with overdriven (cuckoo) rock organ (I am using the word "hammond" here and there just to give you the idea about the type of the sound)… Really, this little one exceeded my expectations.
