Framed by the high mountain chains that surround the city of Monterrey (Mexico), three youngsters live passions and dilemmas

Fifty years after the release of one of the founding records of the genre known as Peruvian cumbia (by guitar players Enrique Delgado Montes and Berardo Hernández “Manzanita”), Vampisoul presents this third volume in the series “Cumbia Beat”, which brings together 45 rpm rarities from acclaimed groups, short-lived bands and outstanding huaycumbias.Like the previous volumes in this series, listening to this record takes you on a journey across the geography of Peru, as the majority of the groups on this collection were from different regions of the country, or had close links to them, although all of the artists recorded in Lima.Most of the bands emerged during the period 1968-1980, a time of deep political and social change implemented by the nationalist military dictatorship.

Mexican group Los Ángeles Azules were formed in the early '80s by brothers Elías, José, and Jorge Mejía Avante. Playing a Latin style known as onda grupera, the band became a chart-topping act after issuing Inolvidables in 1996, soon achieving platinum status in Argentina, where they successfully performed live in 1998. Later, singer Carlos Becíes decided to leave the group, forming his own band called Los Ángeles de Charly.

"Cumbia & Jazz Fusion" is an electrifying work that features two extended compositions by one of the most notable figures in twentieth century American music. The title track highlights a varied use of woodwind instruments creating a full-bodied arrangement bursting with Latin and African rhythms. Compelling melodies can be experienced on the blues-inspired swing track “Music For Todo Modo”. The album is a fine recording late in Mingus’ extensive career.

Cumbia Norteña was influenced by artist such as Pesado, Voces del Rancho, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Intocable, and Groupo Control. Psychedelic Peruvian Cumbia and Chicha from the archives of the legendary Infopesa label, 1968-1982. Alberto Maraví was the man behind the Infopesa label from Peru. A key figure in the creation of the Peruvian Cumbia, he recorded and produced legendary bands like Los Mirlos, Los Orientales de Paramonga, Juaneco Y Su Combo, Los Pakines and many more. Original Records from the Infopesa label are now heavily sought after by collectors and discerning DJs worldwide, who marvel at the exotic mix of jungle sounds, reverb drenched electric guitars and delay effects.

Less than a hundred miles inland from the capital city of Lima lies the great Peruvian jungle, an untamed land of impenetrable forests and endless winding rivers. In its isolated cities, cut off from the fashions of the capital, a unique style of music began to develop, inspired equally by the sounds of the surrounding forests, the roll of the mighty Amazon and Ucayali Rivers, and the rhythms of cumbia picked up from distant stations on transistor radios. With the arrival of electricity, a new generation of young musicians started plugging in their guitars and trading in their accordions for synthesizers: Amazonian cumbia was born.
