Give this vet credit for getting funding from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music and making a big band date that feels true to Copland’s vision and vibe. A large, sweeping date, this is one of those jazz/Americana dates that exists in an interesting hybrid zone where it isn’t jazz into classical, isn’t quite NAC, isn’t quite Americana but is something that has what it takes to please all. With an undeniably delightful vibe powering things along throughout, Vazquez not only has a winner here, this date is one for the ages for quality, instrumental music fans. Hot stuff.

Episode six begins with a biographical comparison of Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee and then chronicles the extraordinary series of battles that pitted the two generals against each other from the wilderness to Petersburg in Virginia. In 30 days, the two armies lose more men than both sides have lost in three years of war. With Grant and Lee finally deadlocked at Petersburg, we visit the ghastly hospitals north and south and follow General Sherman's Atlanta campaign through the mountains of north Georgia. As the horrendous casualty lists increase, Lincoln's chances for re-election begin to dim, and with them the possibility of Union victory.

This episode charts the dramatic events that led to Lincoln’s decision to set the slaves free. Convinced by July 1862 that emancipation was now morally and militarily crucial to the future of the Union, Lincoln must wait for a victory to issue his proclamation. But as the year wears on there are no Union victories to be had, thanks to the brilliance of Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. The episode comes to a climax in September 1862 with Lee’s invasion of Maryland. On the banks of Antietam Creek, the bloodiest day of the war takes place, followed shortly by the brightest: the emancipation of the slaves.

was a three-issue horror comic book mini-series written by Steve Niles, illustrated by Ben Templesmith and published by IDW Publishing in 2002. All three parties co-own the property. The series takes place in Barrow, Alaska, so far north that during the winter the sun does not rise for 67 days. Vampires, being vulnerable to sunlight, discover and then flocked to Barrow to take advantage of the prolonged darkness to feast upon the town's inhabitants. Initially an unsuccessful film pitch, the series became a breakout success story for Steve Niles, whose previous works had received relatively little attention. It was also the first full-length work by co-creator Ben Templesmith. The series became a surprise hit, revitalized the horror comics genre and jump-started the careers of writer Steve Niles and artist Ben Templesmith and has been followed by numerous sequel series, all of which, including extras, are included in this compilation.

I'm still looking for the missing , which is a comic book nor a graphic novel but an actual written novel of the film adaptation of the original 3-issue miniseries (that other alleged 3-issue miniseries, was of course an April Fool's gag as perpetrated by Ben Templesmith in his blogspot). As such this comic book compilation is .

It's hard to be innovative in the piano trio format. The last big change happened in the late fifties and early sixties, with pianist Bill Evans' groundbreaking trio featuring bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. The democratization of input and interplay changed the trio game, and countless groups have worked on refining that Evans approach ever since. A more recent development has been bombast and the inclusion of rock and poplar tunes into the jazz piano trio endeavor—with varying degree of success. Rubato playing, the stretching of the varying of tempos, in a three way improvisational way, is pianist Hal Galper's contribution to piano trio innovation.
