A prolific Italian composer of over 750 works discovered so far, renowned in his time as a violinist and known for solo violin concertos, including the famous L'Estro Armonico, Op. 3. In tone-painting works such as I Quattri Stagioni ("The Four Seasons"), Vivaldi established the essential drama and strong rhythms applied to basic harmonies that would prepare the way for the symphonic sonata-allegro form and the 18th-century "sound." He invented the idea that the soloist and orchestra should be in conflict with each other, holding a dialog that was essentially developmental, with effects like swift scales, arpeggios, and tremolos adding to the drama. ~ Blue Gene Tyranny

The intent of this set is pretty clear from the titles of each of the six discs: Meditations; Orchestral Fireworks; Invitation to the Dance; Nocturne; Pomp & Circumstance; Grand Opera. This is mood or 'theme' music designed to provide either a background or a sequence of 'tasters' initiating the person who comes fresh to classical music with a sampling from the 'great and the good'. True the 'great and the good' are all from the core repertoire; not even a scintilla of Janacek, Nielsen, Adams, Reich which is a shame.

The Four Seasons' is obviously included in this box set and These works in their original form as part of the 12 violin concertos `I'l Cimento dell'Armonia e dell'Inventione' (The Trial of Harmony and Invention). `L'Estro Armonico' (Harmonic Inspiration), `La Stravaganza', ´La Cetra´ violin concertos. There are also concertos for a whole variety of instruments such as recorder, organ, oboe, bassoon, lute and mandolin as well as other, more unusual, concertos per archi, concertos da camera, concertos for diverse instruments, for stringed instruments, for viola d'amore, and many, many more. The huge range of music in this collection, which also includes for good measure the oratorio `Juditha Triumphans', the opera `L'Olimpiade, several cantatas and choral works.

Different Light were formed in Malta at the end of 1994 by Trevor Tabone, Mark Agius Cesareo, Richie Rizzo and Trevor Catania. Loads of gigs were played throughout 1995 and an early version of 'In the Grey' was recorded for a compilation album. 'All About Yourself', the band's first album, was recorded in April 1996 and released in June of the same year. The band spent the rest of the year touring Malta to promote the album.
