After switching to the Stratocaster on his previous album, Paul Brown returns to his trademark Gibson L-5 and engages in some of the richest, most expressive playing of his career on his sixth solo recording, the perfectly titled deeply grooving, blues and R&B intensive Woodward Avenue debut The Funky Joint. The veteran guitarist and composer complements his crisp and cool melodies and licks with harmonies and solos by many of the top artists that he has produced or played with over the years, including Boney James, Bob James, Euge Groove, Marc Antoine, Bob Baldwin and Darren Rahn.

Talk Of The Town, which is also the title track of the album, will be released nationwide on February 17, 2009. As one of the smooth jazz genres hottest producers, Darren has dominated the Billboard and Radio and Records (R&R) charts over the past few years. He recently had three consecutive #1 productions on the coveted R&R smooth jazz chart, holding the #1 position with three different artists (Dave Koz, Eric Darius and Tim Bowman) from September all the way through the end of 2008. That's 14 consecutive weeks at #1! During that time, Darren held the top three chart positions for several weeks and had as many as four songs in the top 10 at the same time.

Riding a wave of popularity that has reached every corner of the genre and shows no signs of letting up, Brown has also garnered massive respect among his peers throughout his cool career. In fact, several jazz luminaries appear as contributors on this slick project (trumpeter Greg Adams, saxmen Greg Vail, Dave Koz, Najee (appearing on flute), Darren Rahn, Euge Groove, and Richard Elliot; keyboardist Bob Baldwin (who also appears on drums on the track where he’s featured), fellow guitarist Larry Carlton, and the late wonderful drummer Ricky Lawson, just to name a few of those having a party on this album.
