On this album, compiled by former Meat Loaf sideman and one-time Cooper touring guitarist Bob Kulick, members of metal's biggest bands pay tribute to the artist formerly known as Vincent Furnier. New life is breathed into Cooper's classic tunes as hardheads such as Alice in Chains ' Mike Inez, the Who's Roger Daltry, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, and Slash rework (and add their own distinctive licks to) "No More Mr. Nice Guy," "Billion Dollar Babies," and the anthem for graduating seniors everywhere, "Schools Out." The most unexpected contribution, however, comes from former Deep Purple bassist Glen Hughes, who after spending most of the '90s off the radar screen, wrings out a wickedly dramatic version of "Only Women Bleed," Cooper's dark paean to feminism.

Elizabeth David was born into a upper-class family and pursued a rebellious and bohemian life as a student of art and then an actress in Paris, before running off with a married man to Greece and then settling in Cairo, where she worked for the British government. After the Second World War, she returned to England, where she was shocked by poor food into writing first articles, then books on Meditteranean cooking. A Book of Mediterranean Food was published in 1950, inspiring a cookery revolution, bringing new flavours and ingredients to the drab, post-war British diet.

Like the proverbial tree falling in an empty forest, if a big band plays but no one hears it, does it still make a sound? That's basically the story of the David Angel Big Band, which has been rehearsing nearly every week for well-nigh half a century but has been heard by almost no one until now. Angel, a saxophonist / arranger who has made a good living for many years "ghost-writing" music for television and films and teaching composition in the U.S. and Europe, formed his band in the mid-60s as a place for musicians to whet their chops and play the new charts he brought in every week.

Nonesuch releases composer Jacob Cooper's label debut, Silver Threads, on April 28, 2014. The album comprises a six-song cycle performed by soprano Mellissa Hughes. Cooper wrote the first song, "Silver Threads," for Hughes in the winter of 2011, setting a haiku attributed to the famous Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō for voice and electronic track. To expand it into a full cycle (all for voice and track), he enlisted five other poets to write text that was inspired by the haiku: Greg Alan Brownderville, Tarfia Faizullah, Kristin Kelly, Dora Malech, and Zach Savich.

Easy Action is the second studio album by Alice Cooper, released by Straight Records in March 1970. The title comes from a line in the musical film West Side Story, which was one of the band's favorite films. As with Pretties For You, the band's debut from the previous year, Easy Action was neither a commercial nor critical success.
