"A Song for You" is a 1975 album by The Temptations. It features two R&B #1 hits: "Happy People" (originally intended for recording by its authors, The Commodores), and "Shakey Ground", one of the group's final R&B #1 songs. The album features then-lead singer Dennis Edwards on the title track written by Leon Russell. Also featured are Richard Street and Melvin Franklin on the track "Firefly". This album, while it was initially panned by the Rolling Stone Record Guide, proved its worth, going Gold (selling over 500,000 copies) and winning the 1976 American Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album. This was also the final album by Eddie Kendricks's replacement Damon Harris, who was let go after this album. He would rejoin his Young Tempts (aka "The Young Vandals") bandmates as Impact.

"Still Waters Run Deep" is a 1970 album by the American vocal group The Four Tops released in March 1970 on the Motown label. Produced by longtime Norman Whitfield associate Frank Wilson, the album returned (the) Four Tops to the Top 40 on the Billboard album chart where it remained for 42 weeks peaking at #21. The album yielded the popular Top 30 hits, "Still Water (Love)" (#11), which was co-written by Smokey Robinson and their cover of "It's All in the Game" (#24), which featured rare co-leads by Four Tops members Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton singing alongside prominent lead Levi Stubbs. The album also served as inspiration behind singer Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", the hit title track, which was written by Benson.

These two albums are almost perfectly suited to each other, representating the peak of the Temptations' early- to mid-'70s output. "A Song for You" was a rare Berry Gordy co-production (necessitated by Norman Whitfield's departure from the company) Gordy and Jimmy Bowen came up with an album that combined a powerful, funky beat with gorgeous singing (especially by Dennis Edwards) and a range of superb songs. These tapes sound extraordinary on this release, like they're really being heard properly for the first time. "Masterpiece" was precisely that for producer Whitfield, comprised of just six songs, every one of them a winner, including the epic-length title song, possibly the best extended track ever to come out of Motown Records. The two albums fit together almost seamlessly (though one wishes that "Masterpiece"'s tracks were first on the disc), and the only flaw is that there are no expanded notes or album credits.

"The World Starts Tonight" is the debut studio album by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, released in February 1977 by RCA Records. Most of the songs were written by Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe, who worked as her managers while she was signed to RCA. They also produced the album alongside David Mackay. Musically, the album features country and pop songs. Two singles were released from the album. The first, "Lost in France", was certified silver by the BPI for sales of over 250,000 copies. "More Than a Lover" was also a hit, but failed to make progress in the UK Singles Chart after the BBC banned the song for its controversial lyrical content. Shortly after recording the album, Tyler had surgery to remove nodules from her vocal folds. The operation left Tyler with a permanently raspy voice.

This set collects two of the Chi-Lites' later-era LPs, 1976’s "Happy Being Lonely" and 1977’s "The Fantastic Chi-Lites", on a single disc. The group was pretty much past its sell-by date at this point and beset with frequent personnel changes, although both of these albums are surprisingly pleasant and poignant at points even if they didn’t yield any big hits.
