Varese Sarabande has announced the full details of the Stephen King Soundtrack Collection. The 8-CD set features 2-CD deluxe editions for the 2003 horror thriller Dreamcatcher directed by Lawrence Kasdan featuring the film’s expanded score composed by James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, Maleficent, King Kong, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and the post-apocalyptic mini-series The Stand starring Gary Sinise, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Ray Walston, Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis featuring the show’s expanded score by W. G. Snuffy Walden (The West Wing, Friday Night Lights) who received an Emmy nomination for his score. Also included is a reissue of the soundtrack album for 1984’s Firestarter starring Drew Barrymore featuring original music by Tangerine Dream (Legend, Risky Business), as well as the first-ever commercial release of the score for the 1997 mini-series The Shining on three discs featuring music by Nicholas Pike (Return to Me, Captain Ron). Based on the hit comic book about a man who returns from the dead to avenge his killers, the film adaptation of The Crow suffered a cruel irony when star Brandon Lee (son of martial arts superstar Bruce Lee) died during production after a bizarre onset accident. That event only deepened the film's aura of death and gothic unease, moods that are brilliantly underscored by this well-chosen collection of stark alt rock, dark metal, and industrial dirges.
The opener, the Cure's typically angst-ridden "Burn," is about as sentimental as this album gets, bookended by Jane Siberry's wistful "It Can't Rain All the Time." Sandwiched in between is a virtual primer on powerful mid-1990s alt and industrial rock, from Nine Inch Nails hammering Joy Division's "Dead Souls" into its own image to the blistering snarl of Helmet, Pantera, and the Rollins Band. So-called pop-song scores often have a cheap afterthought feel to them; this one, a refreshingly integral part of the film itself, stands as a great album in its own right. –Jerry McCulley

From director Peter Weir (Dead Poet's Society), comes this crime drama about an boy who witnesses a murder and the cop, played by Harrison Ford, who will stop at nothing to protect the boy. Creating the Oscar nominated music was Maurice Jarre who had previously worked with Weir on The Year Of Living Dangerously. For Witness Jarre created one of his most fascinating and iconic synth heavy scores.

Lakeshore Records will release The Wizard Of Lies (Music From The HBO Film), digitally on May 19, 2017. The album features the original score by composers Evgueni Galperine and Sacha Galperine, whose credits include contributing music to blockbusters like M. Night Shyamalan’s Split, and Garry Ross’ The Hunger Games. Their international credits include Luc Besson’s The Family, Asghar Farhadi’s The Past, Eric Lartigau’s La Famille Bélier, Alix Delaporte’s Le Dernier Coup De Marteau (official selection at the Venice IFF), Nicolas Provost ‘s The Invader (Best Music award at Ghent Film Festival), Yilmas Arslan’s Brudermord, and Jiang Wenli’s Lan.

In February 2017 Time Out magazine polled actors, producers, directors and movie mavens to create a list of the top 100 British films of all time. Forty-four years after its release, Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now was a comfortable winner. Defined by them as, "a movie whose every glorious frame is bursting with meaning, emotion and mystery, and which stands as the crowning achievement of one of Britain’s true iconoclasts and masters of cinema". Based on a Daphne Du Maurier short story, Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland play a couple who travel to Venice after the tragic death of their daughter. Pino Donaggio as well as composing the score, performed a substantial portion of it himself. He played the piano pieces, despite the fact that he was not very accomplished at playing the piano. These pieces are usually associated with Christine in the film, and Roeg wanted them to have an innocent sound reminiscent of a little girl learning to play the piano. Donaggio claims that since he was not very good at playing the piano, the pieces had an unsure style to them, perfect for the effect they were trying to capture. The song - "I Colori Di Dicembere" - was recorded by Iva Zanicchi and released on her 1974 album "Amare, Non Amare". It is not heard in the film and was only included on the Italian pressing of the soundtrack where it was released as "A Venezia… Un Dicembre Rosso Shocking". This new edition of Donaggio's classic score reinstates the song and reverts to the original track sequence and edit.

BIG DOGS' first season was my first official foray into television, and a joyous reunification (after two prior feature films) with directors/producers Tony Glazer and Summer Crockett Moore. The story revolves around the NYPD's thinnest hold on a crumbling, alternate universe NYC in which depression has truly sent society into a free-for-all. Astonishingly, it doesn't feel as far-fetched today as it did when we started.At the start, Tony gave gave me three things to consider when tackling the music: a modern parallel to the fall of Ancient Rome; a 1970s sense of urban decay; and a 1940s sense of bootleggers and speakeasies.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Soundtrack Treasures Collection is a collection of soundtrack albums from Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy along with some exclusive extra features including several suites of never-before-released music and a bonus DVD containing videos from behind the scenes, making of the music and interviews with composer Hans Zimmer. The set was released on December 4, 2007.
