Although it shook the band's fan base to its core, the acrimonious departure of vocalist Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover served to rejuvenate Deep Purple in time for 1973's aptly named Burn album, which unquestionably showed huge improvement over their lackluster previous effort, Who Do We Think We Are. And in an interesting twist rarely attempted before or since, new recruits David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass and vocals, ex-Trapeze) traded lead singing duties on virtually every one of its songs – an enviable tag team, as both possessed exceptional pipes.

Greatest Hits could easily be a nice Deep Purple compilation but this is by Deep Purple & Friends, meaning it features songs by Deep Purple members in other projects along with a small handful of Deep Purple classics. This was released in 2006 by Promo Sound Ltd. with help from MCPS.

In truth, they created music in the 1970's as a group before vocalist Donny Osmond also had a solo career and become a hunk. Also having her own career is sultry sister Marie Osmond before Donny & Marie became a sibling duo and television show. This compilation features some of the best hits in their careers. There were others who also released their own music but ended up being worthless. This was released by Polydor Chronicles/Universal.
