Shapeshifting from the spectral indie folk of her eponymous 2014 outing, mercurial Australian singer/songwriter Laura Jean repaints her world in the pastel hues of vibrant, introspective synth pop on Devotion, her fifth album overall. She's certainly not the only act to ditch the acoustic guitar for tranquil synths and a drum machine – a prevalent trend of the indie class of 2017-2018 – though to her credit, she has experimented with various different styles on each of her previous four albums, if not quite as dramatically as this.

On their second album Broken Devotion, Portland-based duo Mint Julep instill their lush and gauzy, synth-centric brand of pop music with a raw and powerful emotionalism. The follow-up to their 2011 debut Save Your Season (praised as "melodically sophisticated and dreamy" by the NME), Broken Devotion came to life over the course of four years, with Mint Julep reaching a new level of lyrical precision while easing into more lavishly textured, intricately layered arrangements.

Rolf Martinsson is one of Sweden's internationally leading composers. In this CD five works are gathered. One work is for soprano and string orchestra: Garden of Devotion is a collection of poems by Rabindranath Tagore set to music by Martinsson in 2013. In To the Shadow of Reality, the soprano is istead accompanied by string quartet in these five songs with lyrics by Swedish poetess Karin Boye. A.S. in memoriam is a piece for string orchestra. Composed in 1999; it is a homage to Arnold Schoenberg. A piece called Landscape for solo violin is dated 2010 and takes its inspiration from The Strand, a painting by Edvard Munch. The disc closes with a work for chamber orchestra, Kalliope, composed in 2004.

Songs of Faith and Devotion is the eighth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was first released on 22 March 1993 in the United Kingdom by Mute Records and a day later in the United States by Sire Records and Reprise Records. The album incorporated a more aggressive, darker rock-oriented tone than its predecessor Violator (1990), largely influenced by the emerging alternative rock and grunge scenes in the United States. Upon its release, Songs of Faith and Devotion reached number one in several countries, and became the first Depeche Mode album to debut atop the charts in both the UK and the US.
