This little-known French band from Paris was formed in 1994 by bassist S. Fred, drummer Didier Pegues and keyboardist Philippe Benabes. In September of the same year Pascal Mocaer joins on bass and Fred switches permanently on vocals and keyboards, while Eric Savarino will complete the first line-up on guitars. The following year ADN had a good live activity, performing next to Galaad, Arkham and Cafeine, while in 1996 a sixth member was added, it was female violin player Elise Bruckert. Around this time the band members were feeling mature enough to compose material for their debut album, which was delayed several times due to the numerous line-up changes.

Esoteric Recordings announce the release of a newly remastered and expanded edition of this acclaimed album by PIERRE MOERLEN’S GONG. By the late 1970s Percussionist Pierre Moerlen had taken over the leadership of GONG and had steered the band away from Psychedelic Space Rock and took the band into a Jazz Rock direction, one in which the band excelled. After recording several albums with VIRGIN, with the band now featured Hansford Rowe on bass, Ross Record on guitar, Benoit Moerlen on vibes and Francois Causse on percussion. Moerlen signed with Arista Records in 1978 and recorded this excellent album partially in Mike Oldfield’s studio. Oldfield guested on the superb lengthy title track with fellow guest Steve Winwood, whilst Mick Taylor appeared on the Tracks.

Folk-punk chanteuse Olivia Ruiz vaulted to stardom in her native France with the 2003 release of her debut LP, J'aime Pas l'Amour. Born January 1, 1980, in Carcassonne, she was the daughter of musician Didier Blanc, making her professional debut at 12 with the Médiévales troupe and at 15 co-founding the rock group Five. After earning a degree in communications from the University of Montpellier, Ruiz auditioned for the inaugural series of the French television amateur showcase Star Academy. Despite leaning more toward indie rock than mainstream pop, she nevertheless advanced to the semifinals. Ruiz issued her debut single, "Paris," in mid-2002. J'aime Pas l'Amour, which enlisted contributions from French alt-rock stars including Weepers Circus, Nery, and Philippe Prohom, followed more than a year later, selling more than 50,000 copies. The subject of the 2003 television documentary Olivia Ruiz, Star'activiste, she toured until mid-2005, finally issuing her sophomore album, La Femme Chocolat, at year's end. The lead single, "J'traîne des Pieds," proved a blockbuster hit, and the LP was named Album of the Year at the annual Victoires de la Musique honors.

Clearlight’s "Impressionist Symphony" focuses on the artistic style of impressionism, painting and music as well with a Ravel, Satie and Debussy influence merged with Cyrille Verdeaux’s progressive music experience and linked with the French impressionist school of painting. The release celebrates the 40th anniversary of "Clearlight Symphony," an early classic Virgin Records release, which featured Cyrille’s compositional skills and virtuoso keyboard playing, with performances by Gong family members Tim Blake, Steve Hillage, and Didier Malherbe, and others. For the new symphony, Cyrille is once again joined by Tim, Steve, and Didier, as well other friends, new and old, on eight extended compositions.

Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide:
Following the controversial innovations of Miles Davis' Bitches Brew and A Tribute to Jack Johnson, fusion spun off in myriad directions, some far more creatively rewarding than others. This entry in the ongoing Jazz Club compilation brings together 11 choice cuts from the Verve vaults series for an admirable if erratic attempt to encapsulate an era that defies simple definition or interpretation. The title Jazz Rock fails to account for the sheer multitude of sounds and styles the disc embraces, veering from cosmic funk to psychedelic soul. The best performances approach the complexity of classical music as well as the mainstream appeal of soul, but at worst the music is unfocused and maddeningly self-indulgent. Highlights include George Duke's "Old Slippers," Don Sebesky's "The Word," and Tony Williams' "Emergency".
