This double-CD has all of the Victor recordings of the first jazz group to record, The Original Dixieland Jazz Band. The five-piece New Orleans band, which essentially stuck exclusively to ensembles, set the standard for 1917-21 jazz. Their "Livery Stable Blues" (which found the horns imitating barnyard animals) was a big hit, and The ODJB introduced such future Dixieland standards as "Original Dixieland One-Step," "At the Jazz Band Ball," "Fidgety Feet," "Sensation," "Clarinet Marmalade," "Jazz Me Blues," "Royal Garden Blues," and "Tiger Rag."

The Dixieland Delight 2 CD release features concert performances from May 31, 1975 and June 1, 1975 in Huntsville, Alabama. The cover art of COMPACT JAZZ * BEST OF DIXIELAND is potentially misleading. Pictured are 78s and cylinders made in the pre-microphone acoustic recording era. Although some of the artists here, such as Louis Armstrong and Kid Ory, were in the studios in those pioneer days, none of their early work is to be found on this set. Rather, we have a collection of full range hi-fi or stereo tracks made for VERVE records in the years spanning 1955 to '61 (the exceptions being one side from 1964 and another made a decade later). A few of the classic New Orleans "locale" tunes appear ("Basin St. Blues," "Perdido St. Blues," "Canal St. Blues"), as well as perennial favorites ("Ballin' The Jack," "St. Louis Blues," "Hindustan"). For an opportunity to listen to the music being performed all around the Crescent City a half-century ago, VERVE's BEST OF DIXIELAND cannot be beat.

Bank of Benko (1957-1967) - collection of old recordings of Benko Dixieland Band never released before. A long wish of those being fond of this band comes true with release of this collection. This sound material recorded during the first few years of Benko Dixieland Band - who became famous around the world by now - is an excellent, energetic and moody music in spite of the minor technical and instrumental failures. This material was saved and released by Postabank declaring their image as despositee of preservation of true values.

Dixieland can be played in very different variations: from the 3-man band consisting of a brass, banjo and bass to the big band, all instrumental combinations are conceivable. A typical occupation, such as in the bebop, where the quintet of trumpet, saxophone, piano, bass and drums was common, there is no Dixieland.

The Dixieland style of jazz is based on the music that developed in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century – and became the precursor to jazz as we know it today. One of the first uses of the term "Dixieland" with reference to music was in the name of the Original Dixieland Jass Band (which shortly thereafter changed the spelling of its name to "Original Dixieland Jazz Band"). Their 1917 recordings fostered popular awareness of this new style of music.

Jazz / Dixieland / Trumpet

The complete recorded output, on a 3CD Deluxe Boxed Edition, by Louis Armstrong and The Dukes Of Dixieland - for the first time ever in a single collection. This collection contains both the master takes and all the alternates. Half of this music appears here on CD for the first time ever. These original LPs “The Definitive Album by Louis Armstrong” (1959) and “Louis and the Dukes of Dixieland” (1960) were among the first stereo recordings to fully capture Louis’ magic sound. His trumpet playing & vocals were as fine as ever - on classic songs that weren’t part of his usual repertoire, such as “Dixie”, “New Orleans” and “Sweet Georgia Brown”, which he had never previously recorded.
