Blending classical, electronic, and rock influences into a style he calls "post-classical," composer/programmer Max Richter ignores boundaries in favor of haunting, strangely familiar sounds. This approach made him an in-demand composer for film and other types of performing arts, as well as an acclaimed artist in his own right. Born in Germany in the mid-'60s, Richter and his family moved to the U.K. when he was still a little boy; by his early teens, he was listening to the canon of classical music, as well as modern composers including Philip Glass, whose sound was a major influence on Richter.

A new album from Michael Logozar is always a treat, and "Wonder" is no exception! From the gorgeous cover artwork to the fifteen soulful piano solos, Logozar has once again outdone himself! His sixth release since 2008, Logozar’s albums have consistently been on my annual Favorites Lists, and there is a very good chance this one will be, too. Michael and his wife recently welcomed a baby into their family, and I assume that that event inspired at least a fair amount of the music. Logozar has always been exceptionally good at expressing a wide variety of emotions in his music, but this album has a sweetness and innocence running through it that is especially nice.

Punch is the follow-up to British pianist Elliot Galvin's debut album Dreamland, released in 2014 and his first for Edition Records. The title track opens with an ancient recording of a Punch and Judy show which forms a recurring leitmotif within the number and at a few other points throughout the album. The ensuing trio's performance contains all the vituperative attack of Mr Punch, replete with fascinating staccato interludes of interspersed and alternating bouts of silence, the Punch recording and the trio.

Polish band Love De Vice was formed in 2007, initially sporting the moniker Playfinger. The core of the initial band, friends who had played together since 1993, consisted of Andrzej Archanowicz (guitars, vocals), Tomasz Kudelski (drums) and Robert Pelka (bass, vocals). For this new venture they were joined by Robert Wieczorek (guitars) and Krzysztof Slaby (keyboards). When they started recording material in 2008 it soon became clear that a vocalist was needed, which is when Pawel Granecki (vocals) joined, and soon after the band left their initial moniker Playfinger behind and decided to continue as Love De Vice.
