This theatrical movie based on the television series (which was also based on a popular multiform robot toyline) did not go over very well at the box office.

Taare Zameen Par is a rare emotional treat that traverses through the life of an eight-year-old dyslexic kid Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary). His struggle at school, with the kids in his colony, his spate with his father, his confessions to his elder brother and the trust he shares with his mother forms the backbone of the first half of the movie. His parents give up on him and he ends up in a boarding school.

In the second half, his life goes through a transformation after a new art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) joins the school.
