Eagles

The Eagles are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California during the early 1970s. The group chose the name Eagles as a nod to The Byrds (Leadon had been in Dillard & Clark with former Byrds singer Gene Clark and in The Flying Burrito Brothers with former Byrds Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke). Comedian Steve Martin records in his autobiography, Born Standing Up, that Frey was very particular that the name was Eagles and not The Eagles.

Not only did they sell more records and concert tickets than their peers – Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) and Hotel California are two of the biggest-selling albums of all time – but they captured the shifting zeitgeist of the '70s, riding the country-rock hippie hangover at the end of the '60s until it reached the slick, expensive, and expansive pop/rock of Southern California in the late '70s.

This album, recorded at The Summit in Houston, Texas, is taken from the legendary but ultimately damaging Hotel California tour, capturing the Eagles in fine form in the run-up to the release of the aforementioned LP. Broadcast in superb quality over local FM radio, and featuring such favorites as ‘Hotel California,’ ‘Lyin’ Eyes,’ and ‘Desperado’ alongside a couple of Joe Walsh numbers performed by the whole group, this recording offers a rare opportunity to hear the band at the height of their fame and abilities.
