2008 release. The show presented on this CD comes from a previously unreleased live performance recorded for a radio show. Some of the tunes performed on the show are reprises from their second album together, Fitzgerald & Pass Again. Four of the tracks featured here mark the only known versions of those songs from Ella and Joe's collective discography. This is the case with 'Them There Eyes, Feelings' (performed here twice), 'Perdido', and 'Little Girl Blue'. Ella and Joe's interaction at the Hamburg concert is, as usual, delightful, and both play with incredible beauty on this previously unknown concert we are very happy to present. Gambit.

"It’s alright to take it slow, not belong to the fool’s show, it’s alright to be on hold. To find the heart of gold" A snippet of one of the tiny stories that appear on Ella Ray’s debut album “Reveries”. As a songwriter Ella Ray (Antwerp, Belgium) likes to blend soul, jazz and even gospel into her own sweet songs. Inspired by her grandmother, an opera singer, she began composing songs on piano at a very young age. Over the years she experimented with different sounds, from neo-soul to hip hop to old school soul and gospel, in search of her own sound. This resulted in quite a few live shows and in 2011 she even opened for soul legend Bettye Lavette.

Its Ella Fitzgerald so it is going to be a delight to listen to, The original album called Mack The Knife : Ella In Berlin is a live album recorded, well you guess where! It includes the wonderful improvised version of Mack The Knife where Ella forgets the words and improvises a whole new song and this song contains what is great about this album also what is great about Ella Fitzgerald and that is the sheer unalloyed joy in singing it comes across in the giggling thank yous between songs and her rapport with band and audience, also included is a wonderful version of How High The Moon and Too Darn Hot. This expanded version also incudes another concert from Berlin with another version of Mack The Knife as well as tracks from a concert in Cannes and the Hollywood Bowl. So what's not to like it's Ella at her height doing what she enjoyed doing, it is a joy.

This 1959 six disc set from Ella Fitzgerald is the largest and most ambitious in her celebrated Song Book series, consisting of her interpretations of 59 Gershwin tunes, including her Grammy-winning version of But Not For Me. The album also marks Fitzgerald's first collaboration with arranger Nelson Riddle, a partnership that would yield further recordings in the 1960s.

This nearly forgotten, adventurous record features "Ella" taking plenty of risks with modern music. She breaks outside the boundaries of established jazz, covering atypical selections such as “Yellow Man”, by Randy Newman and "Savoy Truffle" by The Beatles. This is the late 60's Ella, natural, direct and in rare, uninhibited form.

There is no dearth of live Ella Fitzgerald recordings. What makes this two-disc documentation of a 1964 French festival appearance special is the chance, thanks to the addition of a wealth of previously unreleased music, to hear her performances of the same basic set from successive nights. Basking in the presence of trumpet giant Roy Eldridge, Ella breezes through an appealing, varied program that includes favorites such as "Mack the Knife" and "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," big band classics including "Shiny Stockings" and "Perdido," and contemporary tunes such as "People" and "Can't Buy Me Love." As ever, Ella is best scatting and skittering her way into the audience's heart, particularly when she lets her hair down during her extended encores. And as supported by a rhythm section including pianist Tommy Flanagan, she's in very good form on such ballads as Mack Gordon's "Somewhere in the Night" as well. Viva la Ella. –Lloyd Sachs

Here is an instruction manual for singers. Phrasing, intonation, breath control, taste, musicianship, restraint, humor; it's all here. What with "jazz singing" wandering all over the lot as the century staggers to a close, let's hope that The Complete (what dimensions that phrase has in this context) Ella and Louis will be used for serious course work, and not just by beginners. The package contains everything from the LPs Ella & Louis, Ella and Louis Again and Porgy and Bess, plus two tracks of Fitzgerald sitting in with Armstrong's band at the Hollywood Bowl. The contrast between her polished perfection and his rough perfection is delicious. Armstrong's trumpet playing, nearing its last full burst of glory, is as moving as his voice. The songs are by the cream of American song writers, including Gershwin, Berlin, Porter, Arlen, Ronnell, Duke and Kern. They have never been sung better.
