RCA and the Elvis estate made no bones about their intention on replicating the blockbuster success of the Beatles' The Beatles 1 with their own single-disc collection of number one hits – hence, the 2002 release of Elvis: 30 #1 Hits. The idea of collecting all the number one hits is simple enough, but there are problems inherent with the concept, not the least of which is that RCA did this once before. Unlike the Beatles, who went through numerous changes in just seven years of recording, Elvis had nearly three times as many years' worth of material and hits to choose from. Also, he hit on a number of different charts – not just pop, but also R&B, country, and adult contemporary.

Number One Hits contains 18 #1 records from the charts of Billboard, who somehow didn't rank "Crying in the Chapel," "In the Ghetto," "Burning Love," and "Way Down" as chart-toppers, although other national surveys did. In fact, according to RCA, every copy of "Way Down" was sold out within days after Presley's death, not just here but all over the planet, and somehow, amazingly, it didn't even make the magazine's Top Ten!

"The Unforgettable Fire" is the 4th studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was released on 1 October 1984. The band wanted a different musical direction following the harder-hitting rock of their 1983 album "War". They employed Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois to produce and assist in experimenting with a more ambient and abstract sound. The resulting change in direction was at the time the band's most dramatic. Recording began in May 1984 at Slane Castle, where the band lived, wrote, and recorded to find new inspiration. The album was completed in August 1984 at Windmill Lane Studios. It features atmospheric sounds and lyrics that lead vocalist Bono describes as "sketches". Two songs feature lyrical tributes to Martin Luther King Jr.

"Be Yourself Tonight" is the 4th album by the British pop duo Eurythmics, released in 1985. Largely recorded in Paris, with additional recording in Detroit and Los Angeles, this album saw Eurythmics move away from their previous more experimental, synthesizer-based songs, to a more commercial pop/rock sound. Combining elements of Motown and rock music, the album incorporates a more traditional band line-up/instrumentation. Nonetheless, the recordings still possessed an atmospheric and cutting edge sound, winning David A. Stewart awards for his production work on the album. The release of the album also coincided with a new look for singer Annie Lennox, who ditched the androgynous look of the previous albums and became, in biographer Lucy O'Brien's words, "a bleach-blonde rock 'n' roller." Be Yourself Tonight includes guest appearances by notable artists such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Elvis Costello.

This 2005 set is a good collection of 24 love songs from throughout Elvis' career. Although there are a couple of odd choices like "Hawaiian Wedding Song" here, for the most part this concentrates on Elvis' big hit ballads and slow dance favorites, which makes this a good choice for love-minded listeners on a budget.

"Elvis: That's the Way It Is" is the 36th album by Elvis Presley, released on RCA Records, LSP 4445, in November 1970. It consists of studio tracks recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, and live in-concert tracks recorded at The International Hotel in Las Vegas. Despite a little number of songs included (it is just a reissue of the LP), it is still an excellent collection showing Elvis as a very confident, dedicated singer in his top form.

ELVIS - Live in Las Vegas [BOX SET] [LIVE] DISK 1  Music

Posted by GeneralMaximus at Oct. 8, 2005

When Elvis Presley played Las Vegas between 1969 and '76, many rock & rollers screamed sellout. Today, every rock act plays Vegas. When Elvis came to town, it was the event. RCA--still uncovering unreleased stuff decades after the King's death--celebrates his Vegas legacy with two complete, previously unreleased shows from '69 and '70; a CD of previously released material from '70 (much of it taken from the classic Elvis Onstage, February 1970 album); and a fourth CD of mostly rarities from '74 and '75. The latter also includes a show from his disastrous '56 Vegas debut. Elvis began moving in a more mainstream direction in Vegas, and some may complain that the two unreleased shows are very similar to several other released shows from the same period. But, at least early on, the boy could still rock when he wanted and break hearts with a ballad. And the "new" 1970 show includes what may be the best live version of "Suspicious Minds" available. Besides, planeloads of fans from Japan and Europe flew to Nevada just to see as many of these shows as they could in a week--two a night for $15,which included dinner or two drinks! Redundancy was never an issue!!!
