Böhm was reported to have told the Wiener Philharmoniker towards the end of his life "I loved you as one can only love a woman". Listening to this boxset, capturing the Concertgebouworkest at the peak of its powers (between 1935 and June 1941), still at a commendable level (between July 1941 and 1944) before having to rebuild from the ashes of war (1945 to 1947) to finally come back to the highest level (1949-1950), the careful auditor has history in the making unfolding with its drama, its joys, but essentially its incommensurable beauty.

Simply the Best Classical Passion: Music for Classic Lovers Review by James Manheim
The Shacking Up CD series is apparently doing well, for other discs purporting to double your pleasure have begun to appear. Warner UK's Classical Passion: Simply the Best Music for Classic Lovers doesn't give you detailed step-by-step instructions like some of the other releases in this category; the album just compiles, on two discs, a group of classical favorites, many of which have been considered sexy for a long time. Disc one, "Stimulate Your Senses," includes pieces in a variety of tempos and moods, while disc two, "For Those Tender Moments," stays on the mellow side. To be sure, there are some problems. Those who, to quote the Pointer Sisters, "come and go in a heated rush" won't be helped by the truncated (five minutes!!) version of Ravel's Boléro included here. And that flower vase on the cover would seem to be in some danger (except in the release's home country, of course). Despite these minor faux pas de coit, buyers of Classical Passion should make out just fine. And the music is well enough made that it might inspire some to rub up against these compositions once more for a more extended session.

Long-term ELP fans will doubtless recognize much of this box set as a reprise of sundry, previously released collections and anthologies, most notably the three Manticore Archives box sets of the early 2000s. The cumulative cost of those boxes, however, makes this a magnificent alternative, cherrypicking the very best of those earlier releases to create a one-stop portrait of one of the world's most exciting live bands at its best. With 43 tracks spread across four discs, the first three CDs are sensibly divided between the three primary eras of the band - soundboard quality collections of "the early 1970s," taking us up through the band's 1974 tour; "the late 1970s," rounding up the Works tours of 1977-1978; and "the 1990s," capturing the reunions…

The Quantum Enigma is the sixth studio album by Dutch symphonic metal band Epica. It was released on May 2, 2014 by Nuclear Blast. It is their first studio album with new bassist Rob van der Loo, who replaced Yves Huts in 2012. The album's cover artwork is done by Stefan Heilemann, who also did the cover artwork for the band's fourth and fifth albums. Mark Jansen explains: "I have been listening to our new album and I can't get enough of it! It sounds more modern, but with all typical EPICA elements inside. Refreshing might be the right word. This album has also been the result of a real group effort." "It was great to see everyone being so motivated to create our best album!" "Even though the sound is more heavy , it's still a very catchy album as well. Some old influences from our earliest work, some references to 'Design Your Universe' and some new elements." "I can't wait 'till the moment you'll be able to listen to our newborn which makes us all very proud!"

Without doubt, the recordings of Tangerine Dream have made the greatest impact on the widest variety of instrumental music during the 1980s and '90s, ranging from the most atmospheric new age and space music to the harshest abrasions of electronic dance. Founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in Berlin, the group has progressed through a full three dozen lineups (Froese being the only continuous member with staying power) and four distinct stages of development: the experimentalist minimalism of the late '60s and early '70s; stark sequencer trance during the mid- to late '70s, the group's most influential period; an organic form of instrumental music on their frequent film and studio work during the 1980s; and, finally, a more propulsive dance style, which showed Tangerine Dream with a sound quite similar to their electronic inheritors in the field of dance music.
