Erika Stucky war schon immer für Überraschungen gut. Seit bald 25 Jahren knüpft die Sängerin, Musikerin, Songschreiberin und Multimedia-Künstlerin spannende internationale Verbindungen, von Dino Saluzzi und Carla Bley bis hin zu einem Gastauftritt bei Elvis Costello. Darüber hinaus hat sie in dieser Zeit viele eigenwillige, teils verblüffende, stilübergreifende Formationen entwickelt. Stuckys neues Werk schlägt jetzt ein weiteres Kapitel auf, mit unerwartetem Inhalt.

The 33-year-old Danish singer, songwriter and producer built a cult following with her 2019 debut album Essentials, and built on that “cult” designation with 2021’s Sensational, her first for 4AD.

Erika Spring's musical career has included a decade-long tenure with the synth-pop trio Au Revoir Simone, recording six albums over the course of 10 years. Notable fans of the band included David Lynch, who featured them in his 2017 revival of the beloved Twin Peaks series. Erika has also recorded with Jenny Lewis, releasing an album under the name Nice as Fuck in 2016, and making a television appearance with the band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Erika first stepped out solo during an ARS recording hiatus, releasing a self-titled EP with Cascine in 2012. She now returns with the Scars EP, to be released on Cascine this fall.

Erika was born on a cold winter night in Skelleftea, Sweden where she started her own band at just 12 years old. As a teenager she relocated to Stockholm where she started to write and record demos with various rock bands. In the late 1980 s she dated and later married guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen. In 1989 Erika was offered her first deal for a record, which was called Cold Winter Night , an album she co-wrote which proved to be a resounding success. The following tours were a sell out and Erika became a rock singing sensation.

“Actors inspire me much more than music does”, Erika Stucky asserted in an interview already years ago. “When Jeanne Moreau totters through a movie classic, I immediately think of at least three song lyrics.” Movie characters play primary roles in Stucky’s songs again and again, sometimes as diffuse visions, another time as clearly recognizable characters. For a long time now, the artist from Zurich has been making her own short films for her stage programs, in which at times, she newly interprets well-known scenes in an individualistic style. If you carefully examine the booklet of Black Widow, you will find a cunning allusion to this genre there too.
