Alternately heralded as a "soundtrack to schizophrenia" and a "visionary solo effort," Oar became delegated to cut out and bargain bins shortly after its release in the spring of 1969. However those who did hear it were instantly drawn into Spence's inimitable sonic surrealism. As his illustrious past in the Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Moby Grape would suggest, this album is a pastiche of folk and rock. In reality, however, while these original compositions may draw from those genres, each song has the individuality of a fingerprint…

The limited edition 4-CD Deluxe Edition of Chris Cornell holds 64 songs with 11 recordings previously unreleased from all stages of Chris’ career including Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and his solo works. Creative Director for the project is Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog).

However those who did hear it were instantly drawn into Spence's inimitable sonic surrealism. As his illustrious past in the Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and Moby Grape would suggest, this album is a pastiche of folk and rock. In reality, however, while these original compositions may draw from those genres, each song has the individuality of a fingerprint. As a solo recording, Oar is paramount as Spence performed and produced every sound on the album himself at Columbia Records studios in Nashville in the space of less than two weeks.

It started out as a united vision in 2006, shared between the band’s founding members, Björn Strid (vocals) and David Andersson (guitar), somewhere on one of those endless American highways in the middle of a SOILWORK tour. The original idea was to create a soundtrack for their own journey, something that you could listen to when everyone else was sick of listening to »Detroit Rock City«, »Goodbye Girl« and »Born To Run«. With the mission identified, the guys set out to handpick the perfect musicians to share and fulfill that same vision…and it took them a few years. But eventually, they found Sharlee D’Angelo (bass, ARCH ENEMY, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS and many others), Richard Larsson (keys), Jonas Källsbäck (drums) and Sebastian Forslund (guitar, percussion). And as fate would have it, the first time they all got in a room together and started playing, the magic was instantaneous.

Post punk is dead. But before everyone bins their JOY DIVISION tote bags, one thing needs to be said: it`s better that way! Post punk wasn’t created to be alive or to represent vitality. Post punk was, is and will always be a gaze into the void, an echo of a broken world which possibly won`t be the same tomorrow. Back in the 80s, tortured crossover artists such as Curtis, Coleman and Smith transformed the atmosphere of an unsure morning into sound and did what THEN COMES SILENCE do nowadays.
