Man, we're rolling out a lot of complete-album sets this week, aren’t we? This one might be the smallest of the bunch, but it’s easily as impressive – and contains material that’s at least as influential – as the other two sets we’ve spoken of. For all the flack that Rod Stewart’s gotten over the years, there are at least four reasons to cut him some slack, and these are them: "First Step" (1970), "Long Player" (1971), "A Nod Is as Good as a Wink…to a Blind Horse" (1971), and "Ooh La La" (1973). The camaraderie between Stewart, Ronnie Lane, Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones is about as good as early ‘70s rock got, and if you haven’t had the opportunity to experience it in all its glory, then we envy you the opportunity to pick up this set and bask in it for the first time.

The Faces gave us a handful of fantastic records during the early 70s – but alongside those studio sets, their antics as a live group were even more stunning – as you'll hear on some of this material recorded for the BBC at the time! The tunes aren't as totally freewheeling and over the top as their work on stage, but are still pretty great – and show that rawness at the core that has continued to give the group power that's lived on for many years, even past the more mainstream career of Rod Stewart too! Stewart is incredible here on vocals – and the rest of the group are impeccable instrumentally – and titles include a 1971 show with "Had Me A Real Good Time", "Love In Vain", "Oh Lord I'm Browned Off", and "Maybe I'm Amazed" – plus more live versions of "I'm Losing You", "Twistin The Night Away", and "It's All Over Now" – plus a great blend of "Too Much Woman/Street Fighting Man". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Long Player is the second album by the British rock group Faces, released in February 1971. Among the highlights are a soulful live cover version of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed", the wistful ballads "Richmond" and "Sweet Lady Mary", the rollicking party tune "Had Me a Real Good Time", and uptempo saloon bar rocker "Bad 'n' Ruin". Two tracks, "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "I Feel So Good", were recorded live at the Fillmore East, New York on 10 November 1970.

It's extremely hard to think of any band that completely pivots lineups and stylistic approaches, and then turns out well-unless of course you're Fleetwood Mac. Formed in the U.K. as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the troupe eventually gradually morphed into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade, and in the process, became one of the most influential American bands of the '70s. In The Many Faces of Fleetwood Mac, we will go down the rabbit hole to explore the lesser known side of the band and also to review the work of most of it's 18 past and current members. To complete our journey, we will enjoy the band live during one of their most popular concerts of their half-a-century career. The stellar artwork and remastered sound, The Many Faces of Fleetwood Mac if the most recent addition to our 40-plus collection and for sure will be an essential part of your pop-rock collection. Also, remember that it will not be available on streaming platforms.

Grounded. Yes, that's how this record makes me feel. Grounded in hard bop. Certainly if I walked into my favourite jazz club and I heard this band I'd know I'd come to the right place. It's like walking with the spirits, talking to them.
