Bâti autour de la Sonate de Franck pour violon et piano – dans une transcription signée Jules Delsart et avalisée par le compositeur ; on notera que la partie de piano ne bouge pas, seul le violoncelliste transpose une ou deux octaves plus bas, ce qui offre des équilibres tout à fait différents et met en lumière bien des aspects des chacune des parties que la clarté sonore du violon gomme parfois – et de la rare Sonate pour violoncelle seul d’Eugène Ysaÿe, le programme de la violoncelliste Camille Thomas avec Julien Libeer au piano est une conversation autour de la musique belge et française de la fin du XIXe et du début du XXe siècle.

Berthold Heinrich Kämpfert, (16 October 1923 – 21 June 1980), better known as Bert Kaempfert, was a German orchestra leader, music producer, and songwriter. He made easy listening and jazz-oriented records and wrote the music for a number of well-known songs, including "Strangers in the Night" and "Moon Over Naples". Kaempfert was born in Hamburg, Germany, where he received his lifelong nickname, Fips, and studied at the local school of music. A multi-instrumentalist, he was hired by Hans Busch to play with his orchestra before serving as a bandsman in the German Navy during World War II. He later formed his own big band, toured with them, then worked as an arranger and producer, making hit records with Freddy Quinn and Ivo Robić. In 1961, he hired The Beatles to back Tony Sheridan for an album called My Bonnie. The album and its singles, released by Polydor Records, were the Beatles' first commercially released recordings.

At the court of Versailles, the daughters of Louis XV (referred to as 'Mesdames'), and in particular Adélaïde, devoted themselves to a regular practice of music and, apparently, demonstrated talent. Numerous composers (Simon, Rameau, Balbastre, Cardonne, Guignon) played for them, worked with them, and dedicated several works to them. 'À Madame, Divertissement pour Adélaïde', is an anthology, subjectively put together, of compositions that resounded in their drawing room. All the works on this programme are world premieres. These lovely, rare nuggets are mixed with a the marvellous carillons of the Marc-Antoine Le Nepveu clock (currently in the Cabinet de la Méridienne, located at the heart of the palace of Versailles, on the first floor).

The Haydn series continues with the Paris Symphony no 87. Julien Chauvin and his orchestra keep shaking us up with historical instruments listening Haydn’s works and several other forgotten scores from the same period. All of them were commissioned for the Concert de la Loge Olympique - ancestor and model for Julien Chauvin and his musicians - and all of them sank into oblivion during the 19th century, except for Haydn’s symphonies. The release offers an opportunity to experience some rare works of Grétry, Lemoyne and Ragué and to revive the success that they once knew.

Juin 1943. Caché dans le grenier de la maison de l'instituteur, mise sous scellés par la milice, Julien observe la vie quotidienne du village de Cambeyrac, où il a grandi et où on le croit mort. Déclaré disparu à la suite du bombardement du train qui devait le conduire en Allemagne, et dont il s'était échappé, il attend la fin de la guerre de son poste d'observation. Les actes d'amours et de haine, les lâchetés, l'héroïsme et les compromissions des habitants de Cambeyrac se déroulent sous ses yeux, comme autant de tableaux banals et cruels de la France occupée. Et puis il y a Cécile, la belle Cécile dont il est secrètement amoureux, et dont il interprète inlassablement les faits et gestes jour après jour. Jusqu'à ce que le destin, moqueur et implacable, ne se rappelle à lui, et ne lui signifie que tout cela n'était guère plus qu'un sursis.

Live performances of the laureates of the 2017 first Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition. This album contains orchestral performances of the final with the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by Stéphane Denève, as well as Haydn’s Cello concertos of the semi-final session with the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie conducted by Frank Braley. Chamber music performances during the first round and the semi-final session can also be heard, solo or with piano / cello accompaniment. The 2017 Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition was won by the French cellist Victor Julien-Laferrière, the Japanese Yuya Okamoto was ranked 2nd and the Columbian Santiago Cañón-Valencia 3rd; they are followed in the ranking by Aurélien Pascal (France, 4th Prize), Ivan Karizna (Belarus, 5th Prize) and Brannon Cho (USA, 6th Prize). The 6 other laureates, as well as 3 semi-finalists, are completing the program of this album.

We bring together on two CDs the most beautiful songs from Noël baroque, an album by the Maîtrise de Radio France and Les Musiciens de Saint Julien under François Lazarevitch that has enjoyed great success in recent years, completed by Noëls en Pays d’Oc and other ancient Christmas carols. The second CD presents excerpts from great sacred classical masterpieces (such as Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria by Hervé Niquet, and Bach’s B minor Mass by Raphaël Pichon) as well as instrumental pieces including Corelli’s ‘Christmas’ Concerto by Amandine Beyer and excerpts from Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos by Café Zimmermann and ‘Winter’ from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. An ideal programme of music to accompany Christmas Eve. This double album is presented in an elegant ‘popup’ that can be placed at the foot of the tree when the time comes!
