Alt-rock band Failure are celebrating their first three records with a box set that collects their trio of 90s albums, as well as some unreleased tracks from those sessions. Failure 1992 to 1996 is a four-disc box set that contains these three albums, as well as a fourth LP featuring unreleased songs from their 90s incarnation, which ended in 1997. The band would go on to reform in 2014, and have released two albums since: 2015’s The Heart is a Monster and 2018’s In the Future Your Body Will Be the Furthest Thing from Your Mind. In a statement about the set, frontman Ken Andrews said “almost everything people have heard from these albums has been sourced from 16-bit digital files made in the nineties, which was state of the art at the time.

For almost fifty years, the Cleveland Indians were a joke. They had won the 1948 World Series with one of the greatest teams of all time, but had not been to the playoffs since 1954 (losing to the New York Giants in the World Series). Even the Major League movies poked fun at their inadequacy. That all changed in the 1990s, when the Indians became one of the most dominant teams of the decade.

AvaxHome Tribute to Megadeth  Music

Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!

"Megadeth" is not a call for Armageddon. It's a name that was built 16 years ago upon a foundation of cold war politics, economic upheaval and cutthroat capitalism. When I left my previous band, I was looking for paper to write lyrics on because I was trying to keep myself from going insane on a four-day bus ride. I found a handbill from Senator Allan Cranston that was talking about the danger of nuclear armament. It said, "The power of megadeath can't be rid", and I thought - "What a fantastic name, it represents extreme power".

The Reborn is only too fitting a title for the fourth Risk full-length, because it marks a huge transformation in sound and production values that stood far above the first three. They've gone for an all out, apocalyptic concept album here, and even a cursory listen will reveal that the band have emerged from some chrysalis and taken on a more refined, matured mesh of power and thrash metal which has some slight similarities to late 90s Rage, only more polished…

John McCabe's recording of Herbert Howells' clavichord music is a chance to hear some twentieth century music inspired by C.P.E. Bach's favorite instrument. While other composers were re-discovering the harpsichord, Howells' love for early English music and the instruments of two modern clavichord makers led to the composition of the three sets of miniatures: Lambert's Clavichord and Howells' Clavichord Books One and Two. Howells dedicated every piece in each set to a friend, and in the last two sets he even sometimes attempted to put something of the dedicatee into the music, whether it was a description of that person's character or an imitation of a fellow composer's style. Howells' titles, and in many instances the style of the piece, is a reference to the keyboard compositions of the English virginalists of the late sixteenth/early seventeenth centuries. On the one hand, "Lambert's Fireside" and "Goff's Fireside," named after Herbert Lambert and Thomas Goff, the two clavichord makers, are almost completely idiomatic of virginal music. On the other, the meandering tonality of "Rubbra's Soliloquy" and "E.B.'s Fanfarando" marks them as twentieth century compositions.
