Outback is the second and finest of Joe Farrell's dates for Creed Taylor's CTI label. Recorded in a quartet setting in 1970, with Elvin Jones, Chick Corea, and Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira, Farrell pushes the envelope not only of his own previous jazz conceptualism, but CTI's envelope, as well. Outback is not a commercially oriented funk or fusion date, but an adventurous, spacy, tightrope-walking exercise between open-ended composition and improvisation…

Recorded in a quartet setting in 1970, with Elvin Jones, Chick Corea, and Brazilian percussionist Airto Moreira, Farrell pushes the envelope not only of his own previous jazz conceptualism, but CTI's envelope, as well. Outback is not a commercially oriented funk or fusion date, but an adventurous, spacy, tightrope-walking exercise between open-ended composition and improvisation. That said, there is plenty of soul in the playing. Four compositions, all arranged by Farrell, make up the album. The mysterious title track by John Scott opens the set. Staged in a series of minor-key signatures, Farrell primarily uses winds – flutes and piccolos – to weave a spellbinding series of ascending melodies over the extended, contrasting chord voicings by Corea.

"Hell" is the 41st studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released on June 28, 1974, by Polydor Records. Yeah this is another fantastic James Brown album from his golden funk age, half of the album is with the JB's, so that meen Isiah "Ike" Oakley, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, St. Clair Pinckney, Hearlon "Cheese" Martin, Jimmy Nolen, Fred Thomas and John Morgan or John "Jabo" Starks on drums, yeah the other half is made with some studio musicians as Joe Farrell, Tom Harrell, David Sandborn, Joe Beck, Charlie Brown, Gordon Edwards and Jimmy Madison, but it really doesn't matter who play on the tracks because all the tracks are great funk and even Lyn Collins and Martha Harvin is singing some background vocals with the JB's.

The Wildlife was formed by Mansfield musician Terry Van Auker, who had been in a band called the Collegiates. The original band included Terry on lead guitar, John Kinkle on rhythm guitar, Bob Ross on bass, Charlie Barker on durms, and Lou Basso as lead singer. After about 4-5 weeks John left for college and Tom Zinser, from Tommy Z and the Sleepers replaced him. In late '66 or early '67 a producer for Columbia, John Walsh, got a tip and came out to hear the band perform at Greter's Lake in Mansfield.
