Film Fest

From small beginnings in 1974 as a local cinema and university event, Film Fest Gent has grown yearly in stature and is now recognised as one of the major destinations for the film industry. A vital component is the celebration of film music in the shape of the World Soundtrack Awards which honours the very best composers at work in the world of cinema. This year, renowned Hollywood composer Alan Silvestri will be lauded for his outstanding contribution to screen music in a career which extends over forty years. With over 100 film and TV credits he has created memorable music for many of the most iconically revered and profitable films of the modern era including Back To The Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump and The Polar Express. He takes on the production helm for this release by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Bross to celebrate his most famous works as a precursor to the gala performance of his music at the festival by this distinguished orchestra.

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the World Soundtrack Awards, Film Fest Ghent devotes its annual album to all thirteen winners of the coveted World Soundtrack Film Composer of the Year Award over the past two decades. The album will be released on 23 October 2020 and is called World Soundtrack Awards: Tribute to the Film Composer. Just as WSA’s previous albums, the music is performed by Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé.

Hell Fest is a 2018 American slasher film directed by Gregory Plotkin and written by Seth M. Sherwood, Blair Butler and Akela Cooper, from a story by William Penick, Christopher Sey and Stephen Susco. The film stars Amy Forsyth, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Reign Edwards and Tony Todd, and follows a group of teens who are stalked by a serial killer while visiting a traveling Halloween carnival. It was released on September 28, 2018, by Lionsgate and CBS Films, received generally negative reviews from critics and grossed over $7 million.

Features Metzengerstein directed by Roger Vadim, William Wilson by Louis Malle and Toby Dammit by Federico Fellini, in which Terence Stamp stars as the cynical, alcoholic English actor Toby Dammit, who travels to Rome to make a catholic western, but who is really only interested in receiving the Ferrari promised by the production.
