This volume develops an integrated theory that encompasses the various stress states experienced by both RC & PC structures under the various loading conditions of bending, axial load, shear and torsion. Upon synthesis, the new rational theories replace the many empirical formulas currently in use for shear, torsion and membrane stress.
Concrete Structures Deteriorated by Delayed Ettringite Formation and Alkali-Silica Reactions

Concrete Structures Deteriorated by Delayed Ettringite Formation and Alkali-Silica Reactions by António C. Azevedo, Fernando A.N. Silva, João M.P.Q. Delgado, Isaque Lira
English | PDF | 2022 (2023 Edition) | 93 Pages | ISBN : 3031122666 | 5 MB

This book discusses the behaviour of isolated concrete bottle-shaped struts affected by internal expansion reactions (ISR). For that purpose, the numerical modelling of damaged concrete was performed using the Concrete Damaged Plasticity Model (CDPM) implemented in ABAQUS and validated the model through Sankovich's tests. A procedure to automatically obtain the concrete plasticity and damage parameters, essential for CDPM, was developed in Matlab. The inputs were the characteristic compressive strength of the concrete, the equivalent length of the finite element mesh and the ratio between the plastic and inelastic compressive strains.

Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Numerical Modelling in Engineering

Proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Numerical Modelling in Engineering: Volume 1: Numerical modelling in Civil Engineering, NME 2021, 24-25 August, Ghent University, Belgium by Magd Abdel Wahab
English | PDF | 2022 | 104 Pages | ISBN : 9811681848 | 4.8 MB

This book gathers outstanding papers on numerical modeling in Civil Engineering (Volume 1) as part of the 2-volume proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Numerical Modeling in Engineering (NME 2021), which was held in Ghent, Belgium, on 24-25 August 2021. The overall objective of the conference was to bring together international scientists and engineers in academia and industry from fields related to advanced numerical techniques, such as the finite element method (FEM), boundary element method (BEM), isogeometric analysis (IGA), etc., and their applications to a wide range of engineering disciplines. This volume covers numerical simulations with industrial civil engineering applications such as bridges and dams, cyclic loading, fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, geotechnical engineering, thermal analysis, reinforced concrete structures, steel structures, and composite structures.

Limit State of Materials and Structures: Direct Methods 2 by Géry de Saxcé
English | PDF | 2013 | 219 Pages | ISBN : 9400754248 | 4.4 MB

To determine the carrying capacity of a structure or a structural element susceptible to operate beyond the elastic limit is an important task in many situations of both mechanical and civil engineering. The so-called “direct methods” play an increasing role due to the fact that they allow rapid access to the request information in mathematically constructive manners. They embrace Limit Analysis, the most developed approach now widely used, and Shakedown Analysis, a powerful extension to the variable repeated loads potentially more economical than step-by-step inelastic analysis.

W S HALL School of Computing and Mathematics, University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, TS1 3BA UK G OLIVETO Division of Structural Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Catania, Viale A. Doria 6, 95125 Catania, Italy Soil-Structure Interaction is a challenging multidisciplinary subject which covers several areas of Civil Engineering. Virtually every construction is connected to the ground and the interaction between the artefact and the foundation medium may affect considerably both the superstructure and the foundation soil.
