Like bandmates Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis, Colin Newman pursued his own recording projects when Wire went on hiatus in 1980. Originally released as separate albums in 1981 and 1982, Provisionally Entitled the Singing Fish and Not To were Newman's second and third solo ventures respectively. Although his solo debut A-Z had been a foray into moderately mainstream territory, The Singing Fish was an about-face. Written, produced, and performed almost exclusively by Newman (Wire's Robert Gotobed contributes to one track), the album is virtually instrumental, comprising minimalist interludes as opposed to conventional songs.

Fish release bonus album Pigpen's Birthday, recorded live at Hammersmith Odeon on 2/4/90. The disc is released alongside the new deluxe release of Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors!

The Last Straw was recorded on multitrack at the final show of the highly acclaimed Clutching at Straws/ Weltschmerz tour in the O2 in Glasgow on 13th December 2018.

Fish present the companion release to their Virgil's End Tour 2021 live album. This "Alternative Set" features tracks taken from the other 6 shows on the tour, mixed and produced by Steve Vantsis and the ‘Lemon Tree’ gig from 2020 which was previously released on You Tube as a fund raiser for band and crew during lockdown. The stereo audio has been given a boost in quality and produced by Steve Vantsis and Calum Malcolm.

Soap actress May-Alice Culhane is paralyzed from the waist down in an accident. She returns to her old home in Louisiana, where she proceeds to drink quite steadily and to drive away five personal attendants in the first twenty minutes of the movie. Then she meets with Chantelle, whose stubbornness matches her own – if only because Chantelle, herself a recovering cocaine addict, cannot afford to lose this job. Their mutual dislike gradually develops into an armed truce as the two women deal with their own problems and with each others.
