Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine were synonymous with the indie punk scene in the early '90s with a run of top ten singles and albums. They sold out multiple venues time after time playing to a fiercely loyal fanbase.

Formed in 1987 by Fruitbat and Jim Bob, Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine burst onto the scene with their signature style of indie punk-rock pop infused with samples, drum machines, and social commentary. Recorded on tour in 1993 in support of their UK Top 5 album ‘Post Historic Monsters’, this new live album captures the band at the height of their powers. The 19-song setlist includes blistering performances of recent singles ‘Lenny And Terence’ and ‘Lean On Me I Won’t Fall Over’ along with Carter classics ‘The Only Living Boy In New Cross’ and ‘Bloodsport For All’ (also listen out for James Atkin from EMF on some guest guitar spots). Recently discovered in the archives, the show has been newly mixed from the original tapes by Les ‘Fruitbat’ Carter and Dave Draper.

Born Lillie Mae Jones on May 19, 1929, the woman who became Betty Carter was an American jazz singer known best for her improvisational technique, scatting and other complex musical abilities that demonstrated her vocal talent and imaginative interpretation of lyrics and melodies. Vocalist Carmen McRae once remarked: "There's really only one jazz singer―only one: Betty Carter." Carter was born in Flint, Michigan, and grew up in Detroit, where her father, James Jones, was the musical director of a Detroit church and her mother, Bessie, was a housewife. As a child, Carter was raised to be extremely independent and not to expect nurturing from her family. Even 30 years after leaving home, Carter was still very aware of and affected by the home life she was raised in, and was quoted saying: “I have been far removed from my immediate family. There's been no real contact or phone calls home every week to find out how everybody is…As far as family is concerned, it's been a lonesome trek…It's probably just as much my fault as it is theirs, and I can't blame anybody for it. But there was…no real closeness, where the family urged me on, or said…'We're proud'…and all that. No, no…none of that happened.”

Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine’s 1992 album is reissued as this four-disc box set. The first CD features the remastered album, while CD 2 offers rarities, B-sides and BBC ‘Live in Norwich’ recordings. CD 3 includes the complete 1992 Glastonbury headline performance which is available in its entirety for the very first time and the DVD includes the 55 minute ‘What Do You Think Of The Programme So Far?’ feature, plus three Top Of The Pops performances, all appearing on DVD for the first time and accompanied by exclusive new commentary by Jim Bob and Fruitbat! A 2LP edition offers a bonus LP of B-sides and non-album tracks.

He then made some of the most ambitious recordings of his entire career as The First Class, who debuted in 1974 with the instant classic ‘Beach Baby’, a harmony pop extravaganza that became a Top Five single in America.
