Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey is tough to place. Most of their musical style falls freely into the jazz or jazz fusion arena. The problem is this instrumental band is so unique, so different and so original that they sound unlike any other group also associated with jazz or jazz fusion.

Guitarist Susanna Risberg emerged on the scene as a singular musical talent, playing off-centre melodies with no desire to flare and flash. Her thoughtful compositions aren’t intellectual puzzles, though, but rewarding and involving themes that blend movement with periods of stillness and silence, virtuosity with a directness of approach rare in contemporary players.

Undisputed reference in Belgian jazz and sought-after sidewoman among the best bands in the country, pianist Nathalie Loriers formed in 2016 a trio with the equally renowned Dutch saxophonist Tineke Postma (Terri Lyne Carrington, Greg Osby…) and the excellent Nic Thys. Refined jazz with strong and swinging melodies, the trio presents their third album “Le temps retrouvé”.
