Bliss: The Decca Originals: a new collection of Decca recordings of Blisss music, including tracks previously unreleased on Decca CD as well as the complete version of the Violin Concerto with Alfredo Campoli. The career of Arthur Bliss was launched in London in the 1920s with provocative ensemble pieces such as Rout, but it was established by the Colour Symphony which Sir Edward Elgar invited him to write for the Three Choirs Festival. Bliss gradually became an establishment figure, appointed Master of the Queens Music in 1953 and a fluent maker of music celebrating Englishness (such as Welcome the Queen, 1954) at a time when notions of national identity were coming under scrutiny as never before.
Julian Bliss and James Baillieu present a recording Johannes Brahms’ Clarinet sonatas, Op. 120 and an arrangement of his 4 Ernste Gesänge, Op.121 arranged by Bliss. These late works were inspired by the great clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld, principal clarinet of the Meiningen Court Orchestra, without whom we would not have had this clarinet repertoire.
Bliss with founding members Steffen Aaskoven, Marc-George Andersen, with Alexandra Hamnede (vocals) and Tchando (vocals) is an international chillout music collective from Denmark, Sweden and Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. Since 2001, they have become one of the true Chillout underground acts. Releasing material on the Danish label, Music for Dreams, appearing on more than 60 compilations worldwide and in such tv shows as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Vocalists Tchando and Alexandra Hamnede provide Bliss with soulful performances that reflect their alternately African-tinged and jazz-based foundations, resulting in an ethereal stew of pan-global atmosphere.
With a playful interplay and energetic presence, the BLISS Quintet has in a short time made its mark as an up-and-coming band within the Norwegian jazz scene. The band released their critically acclaimed debut album "Dramaqueen" on Jazzland Recordings in the spring of 2022. The album was mentioned in Ballade (NO) as album of the year, and by Selwyn Harris from Jazzwise (UK) as "an impressive-sounding young Norwegian band for the future". The band went on an extensive Norwegian tour to coincide with the release, and won the international 7th Virtual Jazz Competition for the title track "Dramaqueen - live". The results of the competition opened up new opportunities for the quintet, through concerts in Italy, Denmark, and Jazzahead in spring 2023. Bliss Quintet will release their second album "Glasshouse" on 29 September 2023 on Jazzland Recordings with a subsequent tour in Norway and Europe.
Danish electronic quartet Bliss create ambient soundscapes riddled with cinematic textures and downbeat bravado. Often compared to artists like Massive Attack and Sade, the group was the brainchild of writer/producers Marc-George Anderson and Steffen Aaskoven. Vocalists Tchando and Alexandra Hamnede provide Bliss with soulful performances that reflect their alternately African-tinged and jazz-based foundations, resulting in an ethereal stew of pan-global atmosphere.
"Quiet Letters" is music that certainly will envolve all your senses in one single harmony. Kind of easy-listening, chill-out music for having a moment of relax with captivating vocals and gentle percussion that will make you travel to faraway lands.
