Fragments of Love 2016

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers spent much of 1986 on the road as Bob Dylan's backing band. Dylan's presence proved to be a huge influence on the Heartbreakers, turning them away from the well-intentioned but slick pretensions of Southern Accents and toward a loose, charmingly ramshackle roots rock that harked back to their roots yet exhibited the professional eclecticism they developed during the mid-'80s. All of this was on full display on Let Me Up (I've Had Enough), their simplest and best album since Hard Promises. Not to say that Let Me Up is a perfect album – far from it, actually. Filled with loose ends, song fragments, and unvarnished productions, it's a defiantly messy album, and it's all the better for it, especially arriving on the heels of the well-groomed Accents. Apart from the (slightly dated) rant "Jammin' Me'" (co-written by Dylan, but you can't tell), there aren't any standouts on the record, but there's no filler either – it's just simply a good collection of ballads ("Runaway Trains"), country-rockers ("The Damage You've Done"), pop/rock ("All Mixed Up," "Think About Me"), and hard rockers ("Let Me Up [I've Had Enough]"). While that might not be enough to qualify Let Me Up as one of Petty & the Heartbreakers' masterpieces, it is enough to qualify it as the most underrated record in their catalog.

The first gleams of magic, the cause of elevated heartbeats, and the start of an unforgettable night. Armin van Buuren sure knows how to set the tone for a night teeming with highlights. Spoiling his fans with a delicate mixture of chill-out, progressive, and trance, he conjures warm up sets that will get the temperature rising sky-high right off the bat. You'd be wise to check this out.

Elliott Jacqués had an unlikely career change: he was one of Britain’s rising jazz stars until he took a U-turn into modern classical music and unexpectedly found himself at the top. His 2021 track Kaleidoscope reached number one on Spotify’s Peaceful Piano playlist, with its 6.5 million listeners, and remained in the chart for eight months; With additional incredible support over the years from Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer, he can now claim over 70 million streams for his self-released songs. This shift – from the cerebral, competitive world of jazz to the meditative space of ambient piano – inspired his debut album Finding Beauty. “I wanted to take a step back and return to the simple melodies that first got me into music,” he says. “It feels so liberating - I almost forgot what it does for your soul. I love the intellect of jazz but I felt that I needed to come back to a more simple form of expression.”

Kieran Hebden, best known by the stage name Four Tet, is an English post-rock and electronic musician. Hebden first came to prominence as a member of the band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist. Hebden's music originally eschewed the traditional pop song format in favour of a more abstract approach - his sound and melodies incorporate elements of hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, grime and folk music with live instrumentation. His newer works are inspired heavily by house music.

Georgia Anne Muldrow releases her new album - a modern soul classic in the making - titled “Overload” via Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder record label.

Recorded in Amsterdam's Musikgebouw and Haarlem's Philharmonie between March 2013 and July 2016, this triple-album set is a milestone in the documentation of Hungarian composer György Kurtág's work and also a labour of love. It brings together all of Kurtàg's works for ensemble and for ensemble and choir.

His bands are called "New Bag”, “Sound Fountain" or "Bunter Hund", and the same thing applies to all of them: nomen est omen. He chooses his co-musicians exclusively according to the pleasure principle, does not know any prejudices not only in this respect, but also plays and has played with Fredy Studer, Urs Leimgruber, Carla Bley, Ray Anderson, Erika Stucky, Marilyn Mazur, Han Bennink, Albert Mangelsdorff, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Marty Ehrlich and the pipa virtuoso Yang Jing.
