It’s about time BGP got seriously funky and over the next few months we will be serving up some fantastic collections of rare funk and groovy soul from the depths of the black American recording industry. In the last decade funk has gone from the forgotten cousin of soul to the genre that has been most quickly excavated and then sometimes discarded. It often seems that every rare record has been snapped up and compiled already (it’s not true but sometimes it seems like it). However, the Ace collective really does have the ability to go deeper; as with the world of rare soul, our access to the tape vaults of various companies allows us to bring the world some exceptional music that has never been heard since the day it was recorded. “Street Sounds From The Bay Area” is the result of our examination of the recordings made, and then on the whole not released, by Ray Dobard’s Music City outfit between 1971 and 1975.

If I say so myself, this 6th volume of The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club may just be the best yet, featuring seventeen cool contemporary cuts, and two absolute solid gold, classic rare groove monsters that have proven to be evergreen dance floor destroyers for 4 decades! The first classic rare groove will be familiar as it's been sampled many times since it's release in 1978 - The Mighty Ryeders 'Evil Vibrations, as well as being a dance floor perennial in it's own right, also formed the basis of De La Soul's 'A Roller Skating Jam Named 'Saturday's - and it an honour to have it in this collection….what a tune!

This classic masters CD has a good representation of Grand Funk Railroad's career at Capitol (69-76) from Time Machine and Mean Misterater, to I'm Your Captian/Closer To Home (There Magus Opus), to We're An American Band (there biggest Hit) Walk Like A Man and Shinin On (Both Big its), to Take me and Bad Time (there two last Radio hits whit Bad Time being the most played song on the radio in 76).

Phenomenal French band, Soul Sugar, comes through with what could surely be the best reggae album of 2017—Chase The Light (Excursions in Soul, Reggae, Funk, and Dub). True to its name, this album is full of funky, soulful reggae tunes, and each one has a delightful dub version as well.
