"Plasteroid / Galaxy" (2000) is an album by the French electronic music group Rockets. The band, known for their pioneering blend of synthesizer-driven electronic music, space rock, and progressive rock, gained a cult following with their futuristic and experimental sound. Rockets were part of the French electronic scene in the late 70s and 80s, often compared to bands like Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream, but with a distinctive spacey, progressive twist. The album Plasteroid / Galaxy represents the group's work during the late 90s to early 2000s, when they were continuing to evolve their sound while maintaining their signature synth-driven style.

EAC Rip | FLAC with CUE and log | scans | 227 mb
MP3 CBR 320kbps | RAR | 162 mb
Genre: doo-wop, R&B, soul, rock'n'roll

What unites these 26 tracks? They're all black vocal group sides from 1960-1970, originally released on the Galaxy, Fantasy, 4-J, Riverside, and Specialty labels. That might be a fragile thread to tie a compilation around, but basically it's a way for Fantasy, which now distributes Specialty, to round up a bunch of doo wop, R&B, and soul rarities that it has license to. It's an agreeable though not great listen, illustrating in a modest way the transitional links between doo wop and soul music.

Despite being renowned in certain parts of the world (especially in Italy and their hometown of Paris), the space-age outfit Rockets remains largely obscure – even though they arrived on the scene at almost he same exact time as Kraftwerk and prefaced Devo by several years…

Hailing from The Netherlands, The Travoltas were a poppunk band, combining the energy and power of punkrock with the melodies and harmonies of classic popbands like the Beach Boys and the Byrds. The band is often reffered to as "the Beach Boys of Punk Rock" or "a cross between the Ramones, the Beach Boys and Weezer". Their trademark sound is in fact a combination of afore mentioned bands and 80's powerpop (the Cars, Blondie) adding influences ranging from surf music to new wave. But the Travoltas sound more than straight Beach Boys with distorted guitars, and throw a little Weezer in for good measure… In result is something so unique and catchy, you can't help but love it.

Simon House is a composer and classically trained violinist and keyboard player, perhaps best known for his work with space rock band Hawkwind. His arrival in 1974 introduced a new element to the band's style. He was the first conspicuously trained musician to join, and the sound that emerged on Hall of the Mountain Grill was a previously unheard, lush chaos which sounded a little like Black Sabbath meets The Moody Blues. Since the 1970s, as well as playing in a re-formed High Tide, and rejoining Hawkwind during 1989-91 and 2001-03, House has released albums under his own name.
