Liars have, as a matter of course, sounded radically different with each album, pursuing new concepts and occupying diverse mind-sets. On this, Liars' eighth studio album, the bustling backdrops of Los Angeles, Berlin and New York have been replaced with a presence far more intimate and autobiographical as Liars once again boldly step out of their comfort zone into vastly new musical territory.

Vancouver-based band Dumb deliver sharp lyrics about the anxieties of modern life on newest album Pray 4 Tomorrow, its boisterous, jagged charms shaded with invigorating notes of subtlety and winking humor. Musically, the band build on a lineage of mischievous, eclectic post-punk typified by bands such as Gang of Four, the Minutemen, and Parquet Courts, yet they set themselves apart through their unexpected melodic zigzags, playful instrumentation, and disparate genre influences.

Having barely recovered from Songs of Praise - the first album and of the London band Shame - the eyes of rock’n’roll are looking further north, to Dublin. Here, an equally raucous band called Fontaines D.C. are fighting tooth and nail to show that the post-punk revival is most certainly still alive and kicking (and punching). If Fontaines D.C.’s debut album, Dogrel, has its roots in familiar ground (The Fall, Joy Division, Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd.), the fertiliser is most certainly different.

Maximum Joy are a post-punk band from Bristol, England, formed in 1981 and reunited in 2015. Pitchfork compared their sound to "one of the Slits backed by the Gang of Four, while PopMatters said, "Musically, the group’s use of complex percussion, horns, danceable bass lines, and overtly English female vocals built a bridge between the worlds of Afrobeat, reggae, avant-garde jazz, funk and pop". “I Can't Stand It Here On Quiet Nights” is centred around the trio of singles the band released on Dick O’Dell’s Y Records between 1981-1982.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the band's debut album, Mystery Jets unleash "Curve Of The Earth", which finds the progressive British group stripping back some of its more shapeshifting tendencies to distill its essence. Considered one of the band's strongest, most personal and most coherent set of tracks to date, Curve Of The Earth displays influences from King Crimson and Pink Floyd and particularly highlights Mystery Jet's evolving songwriting skills.

The Roadside Bandits Project is the brainchild of producer Santi Arribas whose creative influences include classic guitarists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Johnson and BB King, as well as the blues and psychedelia genres as a whole.
