Garnet

Garnet and Flower have grown up in an environment of stifled grief. Since their mother died, Ed, their father, mostly just lives without a goal. Eight-year-old Garnet struggles to comprehend the world around him, while sixteen-year-old Flower seeks love with her new boyfriend. Forced to become a real parent to Garnet, Ed buys Garnet a gun and shows, for the first time, his real affection for the boy.

Philadelphia-born Garnet Mimms is a favourite artist for nearly all 60s soul fans. His work with his mentor Jerry Ragovoy is considered to be the high water mark of East Coast soul music of the 60s, unsurpassed in terms of vocal quality and sublime arrangements. Garnet enjoyed only a sprinkling of hits, but his recordings were covered by Van Morrison, Dusty Springfield, Elvis Costello and the Yardbirds an indication of the respect and admiration in which they are held by his fellow musicians. Looking For You is the first CD anthology of Garnet's work to present all 14 of his singles for the US arm of United Artists and its subsidiary label, Veep.

Garnet Mimms is remembered for "Cry Baby," his smash 1963 debut single. His version topped Billboard's R&B charts and went to number four pop, but it's best-remembered as the source for Janis Joplin's classic rock cover, which is a good testament to Mimms' influence, if not to the depth of his own body of work. Mimms racked up many other charting singles but they usually appeared on the pop, not R&B, charts, giving a good indication of the kind of soul he sang. He specialized in a grand, symphonic sound partway between Jerry Butler and Sam Cooke, sometimes sounding like a gutsier Chuck Jackson. Listening to Ace's 2015 compilation Looking for You: The Complete United Artists & Veep Singles, a 28-track set that contains all the As & Bs from the 14 singles he released between 1963 and 1966, his soaring voice is indeed commanding, every bit as powerful as a Jackie Wilson or Otis Redding, but it's also clear that this Philadelphia native is a creature of the east coast: the upscale productions are as towering as Mimms' voice.

PRIM was formed in 2015 by three musicians steeped in Vienna’s vibrant music scene. Since then they have impressed critics and crowds alike with their progressive sound and technical virtuosity. The cultural landscape of Vienna – the world’s classical music capital – serves as an interesting background for their experimental but nonetheless accessible style. Their intriguing compositions and innovative use of the standard piano trio line-up differentiate them from standard jazz trios. Despite their diverse musical inspirations and individual manner of playing, the three musicians complement each other perfectly.
